Hey guys, I'm muledeer hunting Idaho unit 32A in October. I hear the deer hunting sucks there cause of wolf kill, so why not buy a wolf tag so I at least have something to hunt? Everyone in Idaho hates the wolve's so I'm wondering if there are guys in Idaho who will give me some tips on how to find and kill a wolf in Idaho....specifically unit 32 or close to there? I know It's sacrilege to give up peoples deer hunting areas, but does the same apply to Wolves? any help would be appreciated

Learn how to howl...My wife is very good at it and has done well at it..It seems to be the best way so far with me including all the calls on the market we have tried.

Good luck to you on both the Deer and Wolf.

Timely discussion. I'm in the mix for the first legal MN hunt in a long time. I'm 100% inexperienced in this.

I'm all ears. (and quite a bit of sausage)

So expand on this.

Once you howl. Is it spot and stalk from there or is it callin' them like song dogs?

My buddy cut some fresh tracks of a pack cruising some powerlines last winter. Once he knew he was close, he howled, and pretty poorly at that, he said. He heard them answer about 200 yds off. Hard to tell really.
He sat down, waited for about 10 to 15 min, and one pulled up about 7 yds from him on his right. He took a left handed shot with a 25 06 and killed a 103 pound male.

That is how it worked that time.

We knew that Pat.... 'Logcutter" 'hunter' and 'best' just don't fit into any sentence right, no matter how hard you try... grin

Driving that Buick up close enough to take pics of elk in a pasture, and wrapping tarps you've killed around trees will toughen a guy up!

I don't want any part of THAT Hombre'! eek

How far east are the wolves making it in Montana? I see the official maps but had a pretty solid source tell me they are seeing tracks up in the Roundup area but nothing consistent, maybe a pack travels through?
