Curious to hear from folks who know much about the black trinyte finish available on the 700. Been looking at one lately and can get it new for a very good price. Wondering if its in fact a decent finish and if it's worth the extra money. Anyone with any experience with one care to share it, good or bad?

I have the older, yellowish TriNyte finish. It is a GREAT rifle finish. Not good- great.

Without doubt the best rifle finish on the market, I think it's better than Cerakote, Trinyte is a nicer smoother finish that is highly durable and in My experience impervious to the elements...........Hb

I've had it on multiple rifles and agree that it is the best coating out there. The stuff is hard as diamonds. Very good stuff.

Have an XCR2 in .30-06 with it. No complaints. Thinking of getting another in .338WM.

Why they don't offer it on their Mountain Rifles...

One thing to remember is that the bore does not have the coating. Since the bore is practically the only surface that really matters, you want to be careful you don't get blas in really nasty conditions- like salt. When the XCR's first came out Rem did an ad showing two rifles that had been soaked in seawater, one if them an XCR, both stainless. The exterior of the XCR was virtually untouched; the other rifle looked like it'd been pulled up from the bottom of the sea <g>. But I bet the BORE of both was FUBAR.

But, fantastic coating. I wish every one of my rifles had it. Especially the black version.

Well, that's a pretty good consensus. Looks like I might be buying a new rifle.
Thanks.

I don't think so? But I'd be very glad to be wrong on that!

I thought they did coat the inside but I'm not 100% sure. I know my 375 rum is stainless under the coating but the bore is also black. Anyone know for sure?

I dont know for sure either on the bore. However, I am heading out on the 19th to hunt moose on the Innoko River. I have an XCR II in .375 H H that I will be using on the first hunt. It has been quite rainy here and I suspect it will get wet. I can give you a better field report once I return.

Water won't touch it. Salt might.

I looked around on the net and no one mentioned it. Must be raw stainless steel. I guess one could put ultra bore coat on it and be good to go.
