Have you fellas ever had a problem of either the bases or rings nor sitting true. Put a set of weavers on a post mil F, ran out of sideways adjustment on the scope. Tried a different scope, same thing.

The holes in the receiver seem to be true, just thought maybe a bad set of bases. Is there a weaver style base made of steel? Appreciate any thoughts on this

Drew and somebody else has had problems with a couple with those same symptoms. Not all Weaver bases are off, but there's been some.

Yes, yes, some of the aluminum blocks are bored off center. As I remember it was the front block (#14?) that was the problem. I've had two sets that were wrong, tried to redrill one of them (sloppy mechanics), threw the others away.

I like the wane bases, but unfortunately they don't do a 99. If anyone has a set of weavers that they are know right, and don't want them anymore. Drop me a pm

its not all that uncommon, not only weaver. if you really want to see how true bases and rings are get a set of alignmet tools, I install several base's and rings, boresighting a month, it always amaze's me how much sets can be off.

I had a similar problem recently with a late '50s 99 EG. When I first bought the rifle, I used Weaver aluminum bases and Burris Z rings to mount a Leupold 1.5-5 with no issues. I later pulled that scope for something else and mounted a newer Weaver K6 - still no issues. I recently bought a Burris FFII 2-7 to replace the K6 and had to use all of the windage adjustment in the scope to zero it at 100 yds. I never removed the rings from the bases since the original installation, so assumed the Burris was the problem. After debating about switching to windage adjustable bases, I ended up pulling the Burris scope and Z rings and replacing them with an older steel tube Weaver 4x and Weaver rings on the same Weaver bases. With the cross hair centered in the scope, it was dead on at 100 and I never had to tough the windage knob on the scope. I'm unsure as to whether it was rings or a scope issue with the Burris, but I'm completely satisfied with the outcome.

A couple of things you might try are turning the rings around so they are clamping from the opposite side - I've been told that can make a difference. I'd also consider flipping the bases around to see if that helps.

Weaver does make some steel bases but I don't know if they do for the 99's. I believe they are the Grand Slam series...

I run one piece Leupold mounts on all my hunting 99s. Had an issue with the Weavers once, not again.

Newer Weavers can be suspect. Got plenty of the old ones and plenty of the old Savage/Lyman blocks and rings. If ya need 'um let me know.

Billy336,
What is the part number for that Leupold 1-piece, (is there just one for all model 99's)?

Leupold's number is 49995. There's only one 1 piece style.

Once upon a time, Redfield made a 2 piece for the 99. Hard to find and expensive when ya do.

Not Billy but yup. Leupold, Redfield and several others are the same and use the same or interchangeable rings. When it comes to 99s one size pretty much fits all. Even Tascos work. I wouldn't have 'em on my rifle but they fit. (snob) grin

Johno-

PM sent. Consider trying a set of Millet windage adjustable rings. I've used these before on a Mauser '06 with good results.

Weaver always made pretty good stuff when they were their own company. Now that their just a trade name quality comes and goes and differs from product line to product line.
