I have a chance to pick up a 98 Mauser by Mitchell Mausers. I know that there is a lot of discussion about the ethics of their ads but the price is very very good. I want to build a 30/06 out of the action. Will it take this caliber? I am worried about pressure etc. Thanks for the help.

If it is a Military Surplus Mauser 98, then yes it will handle the 30-06 nicely. I have an old military Mauser 98 in 30-06 and i love it. I've got several sporterized Mausers and they are great rifles, but I wouldn't want to alter a military rifle today. They may be worth more as collectors items than as sporters.
You can buy a Model 70 (basically a Mauser) or a CZ for a lower price and have a great 30-06. In fact, you can most likely (depending on how much you want to put into the conversion), buy a Model 70 AND the military Model 98 at the same or lower cost.
