I'm once again tweaking loads for my 270 WSM- I want to use the 140 gr. Accubond, and have a supply of Magpro powder on hand, which is supposed to be a great powder for the WSMs.

Any experience or recommendations- Checking on the Net shows folks using anywhere from 72.0 to 75.0 gr. of Magpro, with around 73 grains seeming to be a favored load level.

thanks-

In my Kimber .270 WSM 73gr of Magpro and a Win mag primer pushed the 140 along at 3200. It was .030 off the lands. In that rifle it was max load.

Thanks rdd,

Today I loaded up some stuff with Federal brass, CCI 250 primers, and 72.5 gr. of MagPro, behind the Nosler 140 gr. Accubond.

Chrono showed average velocity of 3335 fps (!), even higher than the 3270 fps I have recorded with Federal Vital Shok ammo- and that ammo often gives bright, shiny extractor marks on case heads.

Extraction was a little stiff and sticky- looks like 72.5 gr. is a bit hot for this rifle- outside temp was around 79 degrees, though.

Think I'll back it off to 71.0 gr. and give it a try- I have a Barnes TSX load using 71.0 gr. of MagPro that gives me 3250 fps, with no problems.

I was running 70 gr of Magpro for just under 3200 fps with 140 Accubonds.

I'm using 71.7 with CCI250's in WW brass for 3275 in a 26" Schneider barrel. Factory Win. Power Bonded 130's give 3330 in
this barrel. Work up slowly, your rifle and powder lot will let you know!
