well the time has come. i received my papers today that my separation from the military has been approved and time to move on. so now its time to downsize the colection. i am planing on keeping/getting one rifle to do the majority of my hunting with in the coming years while i struggle through college.
my question is what are your suggestions? Planning on staying in southern ga/ northern fl. have the shotgun covered for my home state of iowa. have 2 many guns and to much specialized stuff. angain what would you do in the situation?

I would send them to me and I will store them. I am seriously the last person to help answer this question cause I never met a gun I didn't like.

Keep them a while yet. You will be happy with the one gun idea for about 9 days then begin building your collection of specialized rifles all over again at much higher cost than what you sold the other ones for. IF you don't take my advice, PM me your list and I will help you sort it all out

Keep your favorite/best "boring" caliber rifle, call it good for life. That's probably good advice for everybody...especially if it's an accurate 30/06.

I've hunted pigs in Telfair County, and they've fallen quickly to hits from cartidges ranging from .223 to .35 Whelen. I think the results would be the same on deer when using decent bullets. Pick the rifle that feels most natural in your hands, then PM me with pics of everything else! FC

What is this downsizing you speak of?

If the accumulation has to be downsized, I would think of something for deer and hogs. That about sums up the game available that needs to be shot with a rifle. There are a few bears around but the same rifle will work for them too should you get a chance to hunt them. A 308, 260, 7mm08, 270, 3006, 7mm, or anything that is similar would work fine for most situations. I would really think about a 22LR too. You can have a lot of fun down here with one of those and shooting opportunities with a 22LR are easier to come by. With a deer rifle, a shotgun and a 22LR you should be set for most game in South Georgia.

I agree totally, that pretty much sums up my 'battery'. With the 22 and scattergun getting 85% of the use.

25-06. You can get factory ammo that is pretty good and it is more gun than any 6mm. Good luck in school.

hogs we do with dogs and knifes strictly. outta the 30 or so in the last year none have been with a gun. might do some deer hunting down here. keeping an old beat up 2 3/4 inch wingmaster with 2 barrels, a beat to hell 10/22 and not sure what else. just built a 9.3x62 but it kinda overkill down here. be 3-4 years before i get to do much real travel hunting as i will be going to college full time and working on the side to make sure we making ends meat. i could pry get by with just the 2 but like the option of having a rifle around.

What I'd like to know is why the hell would anyone CHOOSE to stay in GA, especially the southern half of it?

But you really need a day time deer rifle and a night time deer rifle..
