Does it measure 22-in from the face of the bolt? The front sight looks like a Marbles replacement - not original, but certainly could be replaced with a period correct sight.

Yes, 22" from the bolt face. Could bbl length be factory then?

The standard butt plate for a Short Rifle was the shotgun style but many were produced with cresent. You will need a letter to verify that it is a Short Rifle vs. a cut 26".
That rifle has a lot of condition. As stated, the front sight is a later production repacement but the tang sight is early Lyman and might have been on it from when first purchased.
Does the rear sight area show signs of having a rear sight...elevator marks?
What caliber?

Rick:
Would the barrel of a short rifle be uncrowned like that? Guess it could be.......
But, my first impression with my untrained eye would tell me it was originally an A with crescent butt plate, cut barrel and new front sight.
Regardless, the gun sure does have some condition.

I do intend to get a letter to try and verify. Rifle is at work and will check the rear elevator area and it is a 303 Sav. and the buttstock is what I was questioning my mind. Suppose it could have been a special order, but I would not have ordered it that way myself.
Cut or not, I am happy with the purchase.

Regardless, the gun sure does have some condition. the long barreled As and short barreled A's, aka SR, were both produced with no crown. The spacing on the front sight is close enough to correct to not be able to say emphatically one way or the other... sending for letters is fun and not THAT expensive... I'd do that ...

the butt can be figured out quick with a look under the plate, it looks like it's factory fit, the barrel looks bit suspicous. The length is fairly common for a sr, I think there should be a very slight trim like a counter sink to the bore at the end. In photo 5 and 6 there appears to be some irregularity in the left sides which would be the bottom of the barrel.

All numbers matched. Checked that out right away and the bbl is not even remotely loose, so it could be a different bbl I guess.
As far as marks where the rear sight was, there are marks as in sight marks and also marks when either removing rear sight or putting in the sight filler.
The letter to Mr. Callahan is going out in the mail today.
