That was a great article that made me realize that some of my favorite firearms weren't the new or expensive ones. One is a Remington Model 14 in 35 Remington I found in a shop that specialized in law enforcement guns and equipment. It was $39.00, had a cracked stock and was covered in a nice even layer of rust. The bore shined like a new dime though and all the parts were present and accounted for. A receiver sight, new front sight to match, and a new butt stock brought the total to about $145.00. After a bunch of free elbow grease, it is a keeper that shoots better than a rifle it's age should.

I bought a Marlin XS7 at Academy for $249 in 2010 that was on clearance. I also bought a CZ-24 Mauser from a buddy last Thanksgiving that the barrel is shot in for $50. He tried to trade it for his son a shotgun and no shop would give him more than $50 for it. I told him I want the action to build a cusom 7x57 one day on, so I bought it. As we were leaving his house, he informed me that if the Mauser was leaving, I also had to take his Mosin Nagant, that his father law owned. The father in-law was arrested for sexual abuse on a minor and the family wanted anything tied to the man out of the house. So for $50, I got two guns. Bought a H&R .223 from the father in-law last Jan for $200, as they needed the money for hospital bills. I bought an older Marlin 336 labeled (Revelation) from him in 1996 when the wife and I were dating for $150. I've gotten a few deals, but no where near like some of you.

Way back in the late 70s my dad's brother picked up a Savage
340 in .22 Hornet and an Arisaka 7.7MM at a yard sale for
something like $100, or it might have been less. My dad told
him if he sold the Savage he wanted dibs on it. Later on my
uncle had his own yard sale and sold both rifles for what
he bought them for. My dad was upset with him for awhile.

Back in 1969 I was about to deploy to RVN and my dad's good friend sold me his .30-30 Savage model 99 for $15.00. After I got back from overseas I replaced the open sight with a Lyman tang sight. Picked up a 1899 .303 Savage for $200.00 lately and the lyman tang sight is now on that. I guess I must be some sort of Savage collector...Mel

I knew folks would never believe me on this one, so I made a picture of the receipt: Brno 22F, 8x57 $149.99

That seems like a lot of money for March 3, 1950.

I recently picked up 2 Small Ring Mexican Mausers in 7X57 for $125 each. They both had been sportsterized, but nicely so. They also both had very nicely figured wood on them. I plan to build a 257 Roberts for my now 5 year old grandson with one of them. I'm hand loading for the 7mm. I bought a very nice Fajen stock with some fine figuring and Rosewood grip cap and fore end tip from a forum member for the 257 build. Life is good.

I can find a decent Mauser for under 200, if I am lucky. Tomorrow I can buy long guns! I am going to the fun store.

Weagle, I don't believe ya with the receipt! grin What a great rifle to stumble on. I sure hope you don't get sick in the near future, bucause I think you have used up most of your luck....I thought I got a great deal on my Remington 14, but it looked like a $39.00 rifle sitting in the gun rack and right now it probably still looks like a $39.00 rifle to most people.

I'd hate to say for fear of rubbing it in. Lot's of pawn shops and gun stores in Atlanta though. Chuck's is always worth a visit to drool over the high dollar guns.

I paid $135.00 for a Remington 700 BDL .30-06 that was brand new in the box. It even came with a factory leather sling.

That was in 1973.

I believe it was in Rifle, a neat article. I bought a Remington 788 for $139 on clearance in 1984. It was a .308 carbine that was my first big game rifle.

Nearly impossible to find a halfway decent gun that isn't rusted all to pieces for $200 here in SC. I keep looking but most of what is available is priced way too high.

Nice finds guys, always enjoy reading threads like these. Keeps the hope alive.
