I've got a Browning A-Bolt .22 LR, and it's been misfiring. What happens is the shear slips in under the bolt about one in four cocks and causes the pin not to strike the bullet properly. Occasionally the bullet is set off simply by locking the bolt.

Now Browning as discontinued their support for this rifle, and the company that bought all the parts wants a heinous amount of money to take a look at it, so do any of you guys know a good way to fix this? Everything's in great working order, it just seems like the shear-to-bolt contact isn't solid enough.

That's scary..........You need a competent gunsmith first, and then if it was me I'd sell it.......

I don't know about you, but the squeaky wheel always gets the grease, and I wouldn't stop bugging browning until they made it right.

Before any shipping, I would disassemble far as possible and give every part an extremely thorough cleaning. If uncomfortable with that, ask a smith to tear it completely down, clean, and reassemble.

I would send it to Browning and tell them to fix it!

I already tore it down and cleaned it.. there wasn't much cleaning to do. I'll hound the guys at browning a bit more and see if that goes anywhere.

Brownings warranty department has treated my family pretty decent.

Browning is known to make some nice high quality guns.
I had trouble with a BPS shotgun, firing pin,
and it took a good gunsmith to get it to fire.

Keep hounding and keep this thread alive.
They can do better than that.

That's pretty sorry if they won't help you with a rifle that discharges when you close the bolt.

Don't sell it like that whatever you do, some kid....

You might remind them that Remington ended up paying some people a lot of money for this sort of thing. Welcome to the fire and let us know how this works out.

I think selling such a gun would be totally amoral. How could you look yourself in the mirror?

I certainly won't be selling the gun. It was a gift from one of my best friends for my 16th birthday. It's just going to have to stop misfiring, because it's never gonna ditch me

And it's sounding like Browning isn't going to budge on anything. They don't service the gun anymore, which means they don't even have the parts in their warehouse. They sold everything for the .22 A-bolt to Midwest Gunworks, and so I keep getting told to go talk to them about it.

So since it's a choice between two non-factory gunsmiths, I'll probably just support my local guys if I can't fix it myself.
