Question for the wise on recoil.

If the 7 RM and 7 RUM, in the identical rifle, with the same projectile loaded to the same speed of say 3100 fps, will the RUM recoil significantly more? Purely because of the extra 20 grains or so of powder required?

I am not a reloader but would the RUM require more powder to get the same speed as the RM with the same projectile in the same length barrel. Would seem to me you'd use a RM powder charge if you wanted RM velocity but like i said i dont reload

I could run some scientific calculations, but having shot a bunch of 7mm "magnums" including the 7mm SAUM, 7mm Remington Magnum, 7mm Weatherby, 7mm STW and 7mm RUM, I agree heartily with ldholton's post.

Thanks ldholton and Mule Deer.

shortmagfan, if we use Retumbo as an example, Hodgdon list a max load for the 7 RM as 73 grains, with a 162 proj, for a velocity of 3000fps.

In the RUM, the min load for the same proj is 89 grains for about 3000 fps, and a max of 95 grains for 3200 fps.

i've owned both in past years. to me, the rum kicks more then the standard 7mmremmag, when both were rem 700's and shooting 140gr bullets. however, recoil to one man is not the same as to another, so you pay your money and take your chances.
