C&B, personally, just going from experiences related by others and pics I've seen, it's a bullet I'd be pretty cautious with at high impact speeds and if it was hitting "meat". To include the exit side. I reserve the right to modify that opinion. However it's damn good at hitting what it's pointed at at longer ranges, and seems to do what a bullet should do at lower speeds, so it sure works at those longer ranges. From my sample of one. Calvin is using them a bunch. I'd go with what he is saying. I *think* it matches up to my opinion. He's got way more data points.

Did he shoot a mule deer? Sweet. Him too. I could post a pic of the wrapped and labeled meat, the horns, and the cut tag.... but then I'd be being your b!tch, and that ain't happening. I already told ya, and I told ya why... I have no pic of the deer. None. If that means "it didn't happen" then fine, I DGAF.

But whatever. P.S. I don't need abitch.

Congrats Jeff job well done.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

Hey Jeff!
Congrats. (Again.)
What I do generally if there are a lot of flies is carry small pillow case -sized quarter bags (5, 1 for the backstraps, tender loins, water pump (heart) and oil filter (liver)) plus one elk quarter bag. I put the quarters into their bags as quick as I can get the hide off of them.
On the west side I'll generally have a handy tree to hang quarters from. East side, you can toss them into the top of a sage bush, hang 'em from a juniper, lay them over cracks between big rocks, use sticks to make a ladder-like formation ... basically looking for some way to get air flowing on all sides to take away heat. Get creative.
once I have all the parts quartered, then I'll put the quarters in the elk bag and tie it into a cylinder o' meat I can lash to a pack frame or meat pack. This means I can stop along the way and separate out the parts to let them cool more while I rest without letting flies, etc back at them.
Generally, if I knew I was going to have to make 2 trips, one for camp, one with meat, I'd take half the meat and half of camp each trip to keep the weight about the same. A sleeping bag or tent hung over a bush makes decent shade.
Sometimes rather than pack meat clear to the truck, then leave it unattended, I'll cache it a few hundred yards away 'til I get all the meat and gear near the truck, then bring it all in more or less at once.
Tom

I'm still trying to figure out how a knife with fresh blood was photographed, but not the deer that bloodied the knife. I'm normally pretty good at these puzzles.

I was actually gonna nail him yesterday, but I decided to just keep loading up for elk camp and drinking beer. He had already admitted he was abitch anyway and I was in a good mood. When he went on another thread and started pizzing on someone else's methods and claimed he was off "really" hunting, (while failing to mention the dinkness, gut shot or sudden lack of camera) I thought I'd have to question him some more today. You boys beat me to it.

I'll say that I'm sure that this was a good learning experience for Jeff O. Maybe he'll start showing a bit more respect for the guys who have bt/dt, now that he's had this giant cluster #$&*! of epic proportions. The internet sure gives guys like Jeff O an audience to act like they know what they are doing.. until they actually have to do it. Some particular areas I suggest Jeff O looks at are field meat care, field butchering, pack selection, shooting skills, and physical fitness. (just for starters)
The biggest attention whore on the 'net claiming to have forgot his camera is pretty funny though.
I'm going to go play around on top of a mountain now.. Not particularly looking forward to the hump to the top now that alpine is burned off and things are slick as chit, but it beats sitting on this machine. Maybe I'm in for an "October Surprise". And I'll bring my camera..(grin)

Jeff,
Not a single syllable you typed here makes sense.
But I congratulate you on your kill regardless. Good job.
