Mr. Dave-

I like the tin roof, it completes the place. As Dude Lebowski once said, "It really ties the room together." Does it add much to the sound or make the room louder?

Great pictures from the drive in as well.

Good idea Dave - turn the cabin into a convection oven! make sure you have fan's in every corner so you get even baking.

grin

They say everything happens for a reason.
For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Haven't noticed a difference in noise yet but we haven't filled the place with happy hunter story time yet either lol!

It does make the living space seem bigger though, and the new ceiling reflicts some light which is a really good thing at night when we have the 3 gas lights going to light the place up.

Dave:

This is what I would call a muddy-boots kind of cabin.

I like it!

Ahhhh! Top bunks and a good wood heater stove! Mix in cold natured bottom bunkers & it's good times for the poor dried prune ceiling dwellers. cool

We keep a couple of pots of water on the stove to provide at least some moisture in the air & hot dish water. Still gets dry though!

Northern Dave, that's your cabin??? You didn't build that!!!!!! That stove doesn't heat for long does it?? I had one and it made heat but wasn't air tight. I ended up with a n air tight stove much like Menards and Fleet Farm ones,, an old Earth stove. NIce cabin and nice horns on the wall.

It's the bigger of the 2 vogelzang box stoves. As far as I know, witht he small one you don't stand a chance at a long burn or any control for that matter, they suck air and sound like a rocket burning.

But the larger one is a bit better. It's that gap under the door where all the air gets in. And also under that "tongue" under the door. If you pull a bunch of ashes back under that tongue and press it down into place you dam up the air leaks under the tongue. Then once the fire is going you can load it up with wood, shut the door, close the draft and the dampener, then lay a handful of ashes on top of that tongue and sweep them up into that crack under the door with your fingers. You basically seal up that crack from the outside and you'll slow that stove wayyy down.

It's still not as wonderful as a tighter stove might be, but you can get an all night burn out of them if you do that.

I was wondering about your stove too, it's enough to heat your cabin? I take it's your only heat source?

Well... some nights we have to suffer along, shivering, cold noses, snot-cicles....

whistle

NOT!

It gets so G'damn hot in there that I gotta listen to the same crap every morning "My god it was hot in here last night!!!"

Cripe sakes we have to have a window open most of the time. grin

It's tough to keep it comfortable in the cabin once you get the place warmed up.

Now from a bone chilling -20 degrees to fully warmed up it can take 2 full hours to "thaw" the place out.

But then once it's warm it's pretty easy to keep it warm.
