Help me spend some money. What scope would you put on a Remington XCR II in 25/06 (24" barrel)? Will be used for coyotes (trigger time), antelope, deer, elk and if I get lucky Mtn goat. $600 max.

if i were doing a variable it'd be the vx3 2.5-8x36...

i prefer fixed power scopes, although i now have a variable 2-7x33 on my 25-06.
rarely but rarely do i use more than 4x in the field for coyotes or game...
and that with any rifle....

I have an Elite 4200 2.5-10X on my 25-06. It works fine. These days I mostly buy Zeiss Conquest, whatever power turns your crank. A fixed 6X if you want to go that way.

I don't know if I have a gun in my safe that has killed more game than my 25-06. Whatever you do, don't let those fixed power guys convince you to stay with a 6X or something like that. I have a Leupold 4.5-14X560 LR scope on it and I can shoot everything from varmints to big game with it. You should be able to find a scope like that on the used market, and you won't be sorry.

I prefer the 100 grain class of bullets, they can be shot at 3400 FPS and are flat to 500 yards. Lots of one shot kills, The Goat was one shot, and there aren't many goats that die with less than 2 or 3 holes in them.

The accuracy is great as well, the mule deer was 300 yards, once between the eyes...

I have a Leupy 3-9x40 (Vari X, maybe?) If I were doing it again, on my wood stocked Remington, I'd go VX3 3.5-10x40. On a synthetic stocked rifle, I might be looking awfully hard at a Swaro Z3 3.5-10x42, if the budget was there.

I have a 3.5-10 x 40 Leupold for mine. Shrapnel;s rig is fine. I already had the "unemployed" scope and wanted to get it off welfare. jack

I like magnification so I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 in 5-15X40 on my Tikka T3 in .25-06 and I love it! I have 3 of these scopes. I also just bought a Elite 4200 in 6-24X40 for my .257 Wby.

I have to admit that I lean towards a variable also for the intended use of this rifle. Curious though why KDK would choose a different scope depending on whether it would be a wood vs synthetic stock. Thanks for the opinions.

My Tikka 685 .25-06 wears a Nikon Monarch 4-12x40AO. I'd look at the new Monarch 3-12x42SF and 4-6-16x42/50SF scoopes. Also, the new Bushnell Legend HD is avialable in a 4.5-14x44 version. Any of the Zeiss Conquest that are in your price range would be good choices.

Well, I'm a touch OCD and just think that Leupies look better on wood stocked rifles, but I don't like to limit myself to just Leupold.

Clear as mud? Doesn't really make much sense to me either, but that's how I am.

I have a 3-9 Leupold on my 700 which has been fine for WI deer. However an antelope hunt to SD I really wished I had something in the 12 or 14 power range. Those Zeiss pieces of glass have really caught my eye. Good luck to ya.

As often is the case, the first reply on the thread is correct. The 3.5-10 "fits" really nicely on a LA Remington, and while being a tough scope also has a nice magnification range for varmints or big game.

I would have to agree. It's for sure on the short list. Light and small too.

KDK.....I can relate. I feel the same way but wasn't going to assume that was someone elses view also. I don't make a habit of buying stuff I don't like the looks of.
