Woodsmoke, what stove do you have on the end of that pipe, and are you happy with it? Have you had a big snowload on the cabin yet and would you go with the same roof pitch if you had to do it again?

Stipe 55, I have a steel woodstove. It was made at a local high school shop class, and though it does well, a little larger would be a little better. It last about 6 hrs. Problem is if I load it to much it's way to hot to sleep. So about 3/4 loaded works pretty well. As far as the pitch,it works great.I've had many heavy snow loads. The camp is in Maine and we do get our fair share of snow. It has 2x6 rafters 16" on center and 2x8 collar ties. So far so good.

Going to start on my camp next spring in the U.P.,pretty good snow load for sure and I appreciate the winters you have there as well as a lot of the others on here. Will probably steal some ideas from a few of the camps pictured. Does anyone have any thoughts of building on a slab vs building on cement pillars?

I'm by no means a contractor, carpenter, engineer or draftsman, just a guy with a hammer and friends with a little know how. Post or slab? Both are fine. What needs to be considered is cost. Also comfort level. Unless you bank it the wind will rush under and make it a little harder to keep warm. My camp is on round pads ( no slab or foundation)and it works for me. Perhaps insurance would cost more for one than the other. also if it is closed in (no post) you will not have critters looking for a home.

Sorry for removing pictures. I got concerned about identity theft. Is is unwarrented? I want to put them back, but apparantly crooks can backdoor in through "photo bucket" and get into your computer and take all personal info. I'm not computer savy so anything from you guys would help me make a smarter choice. I hate crooks! Thanks.

Not my cabin, but one I stopped by last weekend. It was set up with 6 bunks, a woodstove and a Parcheesi game. Shelves made out of old crates. Sycamore
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....

Paul, perhaps in a month, we can have that coffee at our humble place in Wabigoon.
Maybe even try for "The Big One" through the ice.
