Knew without even looking to see where you were from when you said "the Monday after Thanksgiving" you were talking about Pennsylvania, and the great tradition that is the Pa. opener. I haven't been back out east for a while, and man, do I miss it. Sitting with the guys on Sunday watching the Steelers play, the traffic jams in all the little towns on the way to camp. The crowds at every bar, restaurant, gun shop and hardware store. We always made the trip over to Grice's in Clearfield. The guys would be lined up 10 deep at the counter. There was always a guy set up in the parking lot sharpening knives. You could shave on his edges. Sure brings back the memories.

I have a 24' x 6' cabin deck in the back of the old black truck. Some assembly required.

I'll see what I can do about that this weekend.

Here is a 3D drawing I made for the new "porch"

I worked on this drawing for days, I think I have it perfekt.

looking good dave, almost there! that would be a great addition. one thing we did when we made ours too is built a table type system bench along the house so you could double up the coolers. those elder peoples wouldn't have to bend over for their coolers and saves you some more floor space as well.what about your water system. is that far enough out?

If you ran those steps the whole length of the deck, they would be really functional. Might not look quite as good however.

The guy at the porch store sold me a bunch of Joyce hangers.

I don't get it?

Who the hell is Joyce?

Freestyle construction - my favorite.

Have fun.

Joyce was a guy that hung poems on hangers in his closet and got famous. I guess you have some of his old hangers I suppose. good luck with them

I figgered maybe it was some kind of new slang term for girl deers.

I believe the technical term is "does".

Unlike the "butt out" tool, there is no obvious picture that comes to mind for how to use these hangers.

And they didnt come with any instructions.

You going to add a roof to the porch?

Not right away. We want to stretch a tarp across the front of the cabin at covered porch roof height, simulate a roof so we can see how it affects the lighting during the daytime inside the cabin. We don't want to do anything that blocks the sunlight during daylight hours.

ND, I went 6' deep on the deck of my cabin...wish I would have went 8'. Firewood, chairs, benches, coolers, storage bins, etc. and occasional 4-wheeler gets pretty crowded at times.

Yeah, I hear ya. We have considered all of that and for various reasons we kept defaulting back to 6'. one of the biggest reasons being that we like having the fire ring out in front of the cabin and don't want to crowd the ring with he porch, we also don't want to move the ring out any further because then it affects our parking and vehicle turn around area.

Dad put a table off the edge of his deck...I could see that on the left and/or right sides. It hangs out over the lawn. I agree on the 6 feet, my porch out front varies from 5-8 feet and it is tight in some places, some times.

In any event, you will love it I am sure. If nothing else, it should reduce the dirt tracked inside a great deal.

How are you gonna keep critters from homesteading underneath it?

If Joyce wants you to use his hangers, he better dang well be there to help with them I would say.

dave, i think that you should take and keep the steps wide and then 45 them back to the deck so you got full swing stumbling stools to getup. be a nice addition. can always trim out for posts if you wanted to dig them in the dirt.
