Stepfather just sent this today. He's hunting bull elk in the Mt. Emily unit. That's a 7mm RM shell in the photo.

Looks like it is from a pretty small "wolf".

Yes, wolves have been photographed in Mt. Emily with F&W game trail cameras on several instances. Even had an article about it in the Oregonian a while back. It was only a matter of time before they showed up and we are there now. Keep a shovel handy......

I came on my first set of what I believe are wolf tracks in the Sled Springs Unit between Nooregaard and Freeway this year.
Quite a bit larger than a stock or bird dogs.
Oddly, I am not as creeped out over it as I was the first time I had a cougar follow me in the snow.

Have no doubt they have them in Sled Springs as they have become fairly common to see just across the border in Washington.
As to the pic posted looks like just like the several sets of cougar tracks I've seen with cougars in them. My vote is cat

Good Luck. I really like the Sled Springs Unit. It is good old man's country.
I didn't pull an Eastside elk tag though, so I am going second season at the coast. Near a place called Tidewater.
I will be back up to Sled Springs after Thanksgiving to pull out the horse trailer we have our gear cached in. Some years I haven't been able to get to it. I will try to take a turkey while I am there.
I was going to pick a tag up for Starkey but noone else wanted to make the trip for a try at a spike only.

My brother found tracks and heard wolves in the Wenaha unit while scouting for the archery season.
During the hunt, we had a big lion follow us down an old closed logging road. He'd apparently heard us calling, then followed the noise we made. He and my bro bumped into each other at the end of the road when he stopped to mark it in his GPS.
They're here to stay....

Slightly better image. You can make the claw marks out in this one.
