I may have a trade in the works for an already D&T'ed rifle in the same caliber so maybe this one has been saved from my evil intentions.... <G>

I shot the 250 "G" @ 50 yds with a Speer 87gr behind 33.0grs of IMR 3031, Win. LRP. First shot 1/4" right of bull, 2nd shot doubled,3rd and 4th 1/4" left of bull. I think I pulled the 5th shot, about an inch high. Horizontal stinging of group is usually the operator and I dont have much experience with a peep sight. That said, I would have no problems taking it deer hunting right now.

I remember your posting that experience when we were discussing the trade at the outset. I have little worries that the rifle will shoot just fine and if my trade for a D&T'ed 50's era EG in this same caliber does not work out I will be quite happy to keep this rifle and hunt with it. I can still shoot fairly well with a peep, and the 250/3000 is not a 500 yard big game rifle by any stretch, regardless. I am thinking more like a 300 yard number, but quite effective to that range and mild on the shoulder, neck and ears at the same time.

Thanks to all who posted input and ideas.

If you trade /sell it the question is mote.

If you keep it and it is as described and you what to scope it for your own reasons.......have at it.

I like to apply the physician's credo to my stewardship of old guns: "First, do no harm."

It would have to be a really nasty example of gun pulchritude before I would be tempted to do any alterations/customizing on it. My theory regarding d/t'ing any gun is don't, if it didn't come that way from the factory.

Nine out of ten folks who say they need a scope to shoot with really don't; if they would give aperture sights a fair shake they would have their 'eyes opened'. Far better, IMO, to put the money for a quality scope and its installation, into a hotel room upgrade and nicer meals when on a hunting trip.
