Luke's first, 5pt buck. 110yds-perfect shot, 120gr TTSX from a Rem mdl 7, 7-08. Good way for a 10 year old to start-I could not be prouder. Just to the rear on the left shoulder and through the center of the right. Sorry, I can't seem to get these to rotate... And I got to break in my new Ingram...

He couldn't have a better person to take him and show him how it is supposed to be done.

Luke done good. Congratulations to him and you. The one thing that I don't like about the antler restrictions we are under is shown in the picture. Here that would not have been a legal deer and the law would have robbed that young man of his first buck deer. I do favor antler restrictions for us as I see the results but the restrictions do rob a lot of kids of shots on 18 mo deer.

Congratulations to Luke on his first buck. I agree with Boggy on the antler restrictions. There are few things in this world that compare with getting to be with a kid when they get their first buck. You know they will never forget that day.

Thank you all, he is a happy boy! It is nice to "go back in time" with someone to a place where shooting a deer was good, period. Antler restrictions make zero sense to a young hunter. We need to have the youngsters in our ranks, I can see no harm in shooting some younger deer in the process.
Hopefully there will be plenty of time to worry about "is he old enough? Those antlers 15" on the inside? Are we sure there are five points on one side?"

Good job Luke! The rifle looks familiar! This isn't the one I got from you (a friend has it and it is a shooter also), this one has been around from the time that a used model 7 could be had for under $400.00

Good shooting Luke! Way to get it done!
(I've been taking my nephew out, trying to get his first deer, but no luck so far. He's toting my 7-08 with 120gr bullets too.)

Good luck Wade, let us know when the deed gets done and how the 120's work. What bullet are you using? Good of you to be taking your nephew.
