I hunted buffalo in the Caprivi a couple of years ago with my .375 with no complaints. Am going to Mozambique in 18 months and will have two buff on licence. And though I have no doubt the .375 would do just fine, it seemed like too good an excuse not to indulge in a rifle and caliber I have always wanted. I was Hendershots Sporting Goods http://www.hendershots.net/ over the weekend and Lance showed me a wonderful new rifle which they had commissioned from Craig Libhart. It is built around a highly modified CZ action, Krieger barrel, and a lovely piece of Turkish walnut. Craig used NECG sights, LaPour safety, and an AHR trigger. The action has been machined for Talley Rings, and a bit of engraving by Ken Hurst finishes the package. Craig did a brilliant job wrapping the stock around the 5 + 1 magazine so there is not a hint of bulkiness. Just a beautiful thing. We negotiated for less time than I should have and it is now home in Virginia. I'll scope it this week and will try to wring it out over the weekend. Lance's photo is attached. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-...ADc0/1VwuiTGXuvk/s1000/CL404.1.JPG?gl=US

Gorgeous rifle! Hendershots is a dangerous place!

Nice rifle! That rifle smells of mopane smoke and gun oil. I can feel a little sunburn on the top of my ears. I suffer from GBMP syndrom, as well. For those who are not familiar it's Gun Buying Melted Plastic Syndrom. I bought my first double rifle at Hendershots. Great selection and people who know rifles. I've managed to stay away for a while, but I might need to take a drive soon. Bfly

Beautiful rifle. Some time ago I had thoughts of have a .404 Jeffery's built on a Mauser action, but brass was hard to come by in those days and Woodleigh was about the bullet. Great looking combo you have there.

Very nice. I too was tempted by the 404 and decided to go the 416 Rem route, at least for now...

And we need more pics, just one is only a tease.
Mine likes the 400 Gn Woodleigh WC and 84gn H4350 over Fed 215's for 23oofps. A RWS soild works just as well and a composite group at 55 yds with apertures is a real confidence booster.

.404 Jeff is a magnificent cartridge. How can this world be right when you can't find a new .404 Jeff, but you can buy a .416 Remington all day long? Just not right. Congrats, and great choice on the cartridge.

Very nice indeed. What bullet are you going to use to work up a load? I have some of Hendershots Extreme Custom ammo which uses the 400gr Woodlieh at 2200 fps, and have ordered Hornady's 400gr DGS and DGX rounds and will see how they perform.
