My wife is out of town, so it looks like cheese, crackers, summer sausage, herring, beer, and lefse for dinner!
Oh, and Beer Nuts.
She's in Deer River, and I'm in Anchorage. That seems backwards.
Two statements from a hybrid Norwegian:
No self-respecting Norse would eat lutefisk. It was just a cruel joke played on the emigrants when they left the homeland and it stuck.
Lefse is a savory - that means ketchup and meatballs, beef or pork roast if you must, but no sugar and cinnamon. Buttermilk gets sugar and cinnamon.

To be honest I didn't know it was a big wild rice area. Its one of those relatives that I say I should always go visit and never make the time for. They are my aunt and uncle so I really, really should. It's one of those deals where I see them when they come here to visit.
I would really like to go visit them though. The mighty mississippi runs through their back yard and the bear hunting is second to none the way it sounds.
I may have to hook us up with some rice so we can make grouse/pheasant beds.

Don't mean to be a downer here so.....I am making a small sacrifice to add 3 future deer hunters, and hopefully some grandchild hunters someday....I am just looking out for future deer hunters by me staying home.
Best of luck to all of you, have fun, be safe, have more fun and then some beer, and some more beers, and lefse with sugar.
I'm gonna have some beers...

Well, it's about 6 a.m. here. I gotta run my daughter to school in about 45 minutes, and then throw a few things in the Deerwagon, point it north, and let the games begin! I heard that the Swampsquid forecast for the Chickenbuck boys is hot and heavy this weekend.
Good luck to Dave, all the Chickenbuckers, Skane, T-Zone, For S ter and all the other Minnesota boys. Every play nice, keep all the aces on the table, and come home safe.
Good luck guys. Hopefully lots of success stories are to follow.

Thanks for that encouraging report coop. Yeah it's a dark morning, I've got around $7000 worth of guns piled into the cab of a $2500 truck. Clothes are packed, wollies, 7 gallons of water, 10 gallons of canned and bottled beer... A generator, a gun cleaning kit.... The weezy and I made a run to the cabin last night with the old 77 F250 gear grinder (she drove, hence the grinding) I can honestly say that the drive out to camp and back home was good practice for a young lady trying to master the manual transmission. And by the time we got back home, she was still no better off then when we departed. lol!! Manual transmissions are not for everybody. We hauled an ATV and a large bbq grill out to camp last night, the grill is on the deck, yahoo! That's gonna be awesome!

We're lacking deer pics guys. Nothing too impressive but I caught this guy red-handed stealing my garden produce.

I would shoot him in da eye.
Tall bugger huh?
Is that rack shape something you would call typical or a trait, an area genetic trait?
I used to hunt a spot by the Mud river where the main beams would curl around out front sometimes to a closed circle and sometimes past each other.

What is this "Lefsa" stuff you speak of ? I'm from Oklahoma so we don't know about these " up nort" things Sinful... What a shame... Someone send this man some pa-tater tortillas ASAP. Lefsa is good. Lutefisk, not so much.

I already have my wild rice for camp. I've heard rumors that the crop wasn't too good this year.
