For the record, I wasn't wearing a scrap of camo. I saw them before they saw me, there was a mild crosswind, and I held still. Watched them graze for a few minutes about 30 yards further out before they started moving and I shot this particular segment. They did see me after they moved up the arroyo in my direction (as you can see in the video). Don't know if the fact that the biggest ram was wearing a radio collar made the group more or less spooky.
Keep applying for those permits. Eventually you'll draw.

Thanks Mav! If you guys have any suggestions on books or articles that you would suggest on states or strategies for choosing the right place to apply for I would appreciate it.
Well, the best advice - and this can be found in any book, magazine or hunter-oriented periodical on the subject - is to apply in as many sheep permit states (all of them?) as possible and to never stop applying.
In terms of deciding on which units to choose from within the individual states, that's an easy enough decision by simply looking through the draw odds per each unit.
Of course, there's agencies which will charge a fee to do all that for you, but why waste money on something which can easily be done all by yourself?
The bottom line is; to apply in as many states as possible and to continue applying till you draw a permit. Eventually YOU WILL draw.

If that is where I think it is that would be Desert Big Horns. For whatever reason they are pretty laid back in that area. Not like the Rocky Mtn one we saw over the weekend.
