I'm coming out next week to stay in Loveland and hunt elk in unit 20. I've got four days only to hunt.

I've hunted elk previously in Colorado with my Dad, but not this unit. That being said, I've Google Earth scouted this unit to death. I've come up with the Krosier area, twin sisters swa, and behind Pinewood Meadows town with places to target as they have large areas of public land.

If anyone on this forum has ideas to help me find some meat please feel free to contact me.

I just moved from Loveland to Greeley just about 50 minutes from Estes and go up to RMNP several times a year. So far we have had minimal snow with nothing sticking but up by the divide really and warmer temps for this time of year, 65 this weekend. I would focus on the higher area and as close to RMNP as possible, its a safe haven for wildlife and most elk in or near RMNP are more used to human presence due to the tourism RMNP brings. Got some nices pics of a big 7x7 from about 50 ft away earlier in the year. Depending on your hunting style Indian Peaks Wilderness(just southwest of Allen's Park) is by foot or horseback only but may provide low hunter pressure and close proximity to RMNP and good terrain. I have a few days off and wouldn't mind taking a drive for a pre scout.

Do you have public land overlays for Google Earth? Lots of private land in this unit.

I do have the overlays for Google Earth as well an a good software for GPS that tells me private/public. That should not be a problem.

I've got calls in to a forest service employee as well as the biologist, but haven't heard back. Any ideas on where I should start with this warm weather?
