Tuckered out tzone checking in. Got a 15-16" wide 8pt, with big ol body on him. He'll go 200 pretty easy. I'd say 350 if you asked me after the drag out.
I'll get him weighed tomorrow and post pics tomorrow nite.

Shot was 90 yards, 7x57 Mauser, 145gr power points. Shot him through the front axles and still ran 30 yards. He did the heartshot mule kick and crashed through the tag alders.

Excellent TZ! I'm mostly scaring squirrels with arrows myself. Not doing much to the deer population.
Fluffy, what sort of .450? Marlin? Rigby? etc etc. Whichever it is you will not be undergunned for sure.
Save an elk, shoot a cow.

1895 marlin guide gun,non ported. I've got the shorter ported version of that gun, I might dust it off and take it along this week. I shot a cow elk with it once but I haven't shot a deer with it yet.
Something clever here.

Congrats to those who scored this year so far!
I'd rather have a bad day hunting than a good day working!

Here's all I have to share. I left her out on the deer pole at camp for "seed" hoping it will help bring us more.

Nice doe Dave.
My uncle drove up this AM and I took him out to the range to sight in his rifle (Model 7 CDL in 308). First group wa 5 inches high. Adjusted the scope and the next 3 printed 1 inch high. Good enough. Not bad for a 89 year old shooter.

Nice deer Dave, but then any deer hanging from the meat pole is a nice deer.

Where I hunted I thought it was one of the quietest opening weekends in Minnesota that I have ever been a part of.
There was very little shooting for the first two 1/2 days that I hunted, where in normal years there would have been a lot of shooting.
I did not see a deer until late on the second day, and was able to take a rather large buck at about 9:30 A.M. on the third day. While working most of the rest of the day to get him out I didn't hear any other shooting. This in an area where the bonus tag was over the counter (not lottery).
I wish I would have taken a photo of the deer. In over 45 years of deer hunting it was the first deer I have taken with the palmation type of antler on one side. almost like a minature moose antler.

I'm all most wondering if the DNR needs to rethink this whole doe tag system. Our area was a lottery area this year, but there sure weren't very many deer taken. Granted, we could have used some snow, and the warm temps kept guys from getting up and moving around, which would have moved some deer in front of the guns, but it just seems like the numbers are down. 'Might just be my observations in my area, but I'm wondering. 'Heading back up for a day trip this Sunday. 'Hoping for better success this time.

Got a 15-16" wide 8pt, with big ol body on him. He'll go 200 pretty easy. I connected with tzone in Duluth yesterday morning and got to see his deer - nice buck.

I think you should post a pic or two of yours. Well, he's 14 1/2" wide and 204 pounds according to the registration station in Island Lake. Dave knows the place I'm sure. I hung it in the garage last night and came in to the house to put stuff away and heard a CRASH! in the garage. I didn't even have to go look..I knew what it was. The rope broke on the pulley and the whole shot came down. It didn't seem any worse for the wear.

The shot was 90 yards or so. Shot behind in the "crease" of the leg when he was stepping forward. Exited on the leg on the far side, destroying the heart. Winchester M70 xtr 7x57 Mauser, 145gr Win Power Point bullet. He did the typical heart shot "mule kick" and plowed about 25-30 yards into the tag alders. Here's a couple shots. I didn't take many, kinda disappointed in myself for that. Here's where he was standing when I shot. The stand is in the big Cedar at the far end of the picture. Shot was 100 paces, so I figure 90'ish yards. Where he ran after the shot. Where he ran through. You can see him laying next to the big tree in the center of the pic. Tangled mess I pulled him out of. The mark on the tag alder is from him plowing I think. After I pulled him out of the tangle. He buried himself in the tangle next to the ash in the center of the pic. Note all the broken brush. One more a bit closer. Then the work started.
