Getting ready to start loading for my 7mm-08 and have been looking over bullet prices. It looks like I can get Sierra 120gr Pro-Hunter's for about half the price of Nosler's 120gr Ballistic Tip; anybody using the 120gr Pro Hunters in a 7mm-08?
I'm looking for an inexpensive bullet for practice and will likely use a Barnes or Nosler 120gr if I take the rifle hunting.

I haven't used the Sierra but I have used the 120gr BT in my 7mm-08. They shoot extremely well and absolutely knock the pee-wadden out of the local blacktails.
I will hunt everywhere before I die!

I load the 120gr prohunters in my gf's 7mm-08 youth loads. This will be the first year using them on deer but they are super accurate. Shot my first true one hole group with these bullets in the youth loads i load for her 7mm-08.

I've been watching there for awhile; I still kick myself for not jumping on them the last time they were available at 12.99/50.

You won't be handicapped by the Sierra 120gr Pro-Hunter...

You won't be handicapped by the Sierra 120gr Pro-Hunter... I killed a few deer with them before I switched to the 120 gr ballistic tip which was about the same time as I put a new barrel and went improved. They did a fine job but I thought, right or wrong, that the ballistic tip would be better with the higher speed of the improved version. Double lung shots would be pass through's and I broke the shoulders of a large 9 point at 200 yards with the bullet against the skin on the far side. This with a model 7 with the 18 1/2 barrel pushing them a little over 2900 fps. Been a long time and don't remember exactly. miles
Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

Sierra's rock. Don't let a few dollars a box make your decision. You probably won't shoot that many to make a difference. BUT, I'm sure the Pro-Hunter will kill em dead as a Berger.

As I noted in the first post, I'm not too concerned about the performance--on game--of the Sierra's as I intend to use them mainly for practice. By practice I mean shooting 150-200 rounds per month until hunting season next year. (One of the benefits of a light-recoiling rifle). That cost adds up Looks like they're good bullets; I'll have to give them a try.

I'd shoot the 150-200 rounds per month and when deer season came take the same loads with the same Sierra bullets hunting and never look back.

All my deer in the past 5-6 years have fell to Sierra bullets. 140 ProHunters, actually. They're accurate and work well on game. They work just like CoreLokt ammo, IME. And those likely account for more game then any other bullet opening day.

I push sierra 120's out of my wifes model 7 7-08 at 2600fps. Nice combo for fun shooting. Works great on deer.
