I'm not real good with the search function, so I'm sorry if this is beating a dead horse. I was ready to throw down the money on a Marlin 338MXLR, but we all know the deal there (I hadn't done my homework).
Now I'm onto the BLR. I like ammo availability of the '06, but people seem to like the short action better in this rifle. This leads me to the 358 or 300wsm. I already reload for the '06 and the WSM and would do so for the 358.
What say you?
Thanks, Dan

I've had my .358 BLR since 1980 and think very highly of it, in fact, I was shooting it yesterday at the range. I've never shot but have handled the new aluminum models and don't care for them as much. I'd suggest looking for the first model or the '81.

just get the 308. Shot mine yeaterday. 1979 production with 3.5-10x40 atop. 165 Hornady SP's at 2550. Think i pulled that one a little. she usually pokes tighter holes. Maybe a smaller aiming dot would have helped.

Found one in 300wsm and going to handle it after work today. I've never held one, let alone shot one. Guys don't seem to like the long actions / longer lever throw from what I've been reading. I'm wondering if anyone has/ had a long action who wants to chime in.

i have owned both BLR and lightnings modles. The old thin steel job is the only thing I'd recommend.

Since you already reload, I'd say have at the .358 Win because you don't want to rely on factory ammo for it. I think short is better than long for the BLR, but I have no experience with long action cartridges in it. It would seem working the lever would require a little more though.

My 358 Win BLR will be in my casket with me when I kick the bucket. My reloads have me shooting a smidge over 1/2"!
