Too bad, Ryan, but unfortunately it happens. I lost one 10 years ago. Neighbors found it a week later with a young bear sitting on it chewing away.

Priority change today. Need to buy a new frig. The old one (31 years old) is on it's last legs.

just reread your last sentence Ryan. I commend you for that decision. Not many can do that.

On a separate topic, have you been seeing/shooting some roosters?

It happens Ryan and I know how you feel. It sucks to say the least. I once found one that I had thought was lost by finding the nearest water source from last blood. I knew he was hit a little far back and the blood was bright red so it was a liver shot. They burn up when hit in the liver and head for water. I found him laying half submerged.

I commend you for wanting to punch your tag and be done but don't let it get you down too bad.

Report from Isabella area.
A 6 point, no brow tines, came by my stand at 0905. He was moving fairly fast and shot was a back of lung and liver hit. Tracked him about 75 yards, bleeding good, into heavy cover. Called the wife on the radio, she was in camp taking the morning off, and she came with the truck and drag rope.
Rifle and bullet info.

A first. The game warden stopped and check us just as I posted. First time in 13 years. Nice young guy just starting. Said he has been working this area for 5 months. That means he just finished his training.

My first "Chickenbuck" apparel action shot. I didn't have my shirt or hoodie for the season, so this is as close as either is getting to venison this year:

saw lots of deer today, passed up on 4 or 5 nice bucks. hard for me to do, but this tag is a very rare draw in an extremely limited area, so I'm holding out for mr. big. never done that before this year. I've had a blast hunting with my dad though!

Update camp Isabell..
Game warden came by yesterday about 1100, first time ever. Nice young guy just starting.
At 2pm the wife shot a spike and our deer tags are now full. Son and DIL are in camp so the hunt goes on.

Ryan. Good luck on getting a big one.

PS And good luck to all still hunting and getting ready to hunt.

well I couldn't resist anymore, this guy came by and I took him. I saw 2 bigger ones this morning but they were either too far or it was dark and I couldn't get a real good look at him. dad still has a tag so we're going to hold out for a bruiser buck. saw probably 30-40 deer this morning, about half of them were small bucks.
this was the biggest of the main group that came by. we watched him for about 30 minutes before I couldn't take it anymore and dropped the hammer. 243 pushing 95 grain NBTs at a little over 2900 fps. bang flop DRT. one of the most memorable hunts to date because I was with my dad in the same blind. he's never been with me when I took a big game animal like that so it was a blast.
here is the only pic I have so far.

That sounds like some real, quality family time. The priceless kind that gains value as the years go by.
