Quick story,since the wind was blowing at 25 knots,i forgo the deer stand and went still hunting back in an old spot i hunted in years ago,down in zone 172.
The 65 lbs female had the misfortune to be seen by me on its travels.
No real skil involved,just luck.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.

Luck = opportunity + preparation.

Downplay it all you want, but you put yourself there and then made the shot when it presented itself.

Congrats!!!!

Me too,Brent.Actually,had a few offers to buy the pelt already,but it raw fur can only be sold to a fur buyer,per state law.
I had the local deer processor skin it for me.

Most taxidermists send their pelts out to be tanned. I know of one in Iowa that does it "in house". He did a beautiful job on a friend's grizzly and I visited his shop to pick it up for him. He is awesome with bears. So, if you can't find someone you like up there, I'd be happy to get contact info for the guy here.

Like I said previously,I never thought I would be drawn,then,never thought I would even see one while hunting,first time I had seen one since about 1986.
(I was talking to the processor and he told me another party who brought in some deer to be processed, saw six in the same permit area(172) but none had drawn a permit.)
So,since I never thought I would actually tag one,I never had plans on what to actually do with one,if I got one.
Im not going hunting this morning to see if I can get the pelt and carcass inspection done before I leave,otherwise I may have to take time off work tommorrow to drive an hour to have it inspected in forest lake.
After that,I will consider what to do with the pelt ,and remains.
Steaks,anyone?

hey, you shot it - you eat it! smile

Do you have the pelt salted? It will collect a lot of moisture when you do that but it will keep the fur from slipping.
