My friend has an SPS in 7mm mag and is having trouble getting MOA or less at 100 yards,I adjusted the trigger down to about 2.5 lbs. I noticed that the factory stock has the pressure bumps at the end towards the muzzle,can I remove them to make it truely free floated,it is if I slide a piece of paper in behind the bumps.Will this help with accuracy? Or would I be better off not touching it.I also have some loads to try too..3 different ones.

I trimmed them off of a model seven synthetic stock and it worked fine

My XCR 2 model seven syntheric stock is the same I left it alone and it shoots fine, I would try the other loads first before shaving those bumps just my opinion.. I would also check the scope mounts for proper securment..

On the few I've tinkered with most shot better with the bumps. There wasn't much difference either way, in the nature of fine tuning. Others say they've had the opposite experience. I put the bumps back with bedding compound, or more accurately made a little pad where the bumps were. You hang 5 pounds or so from the barrel, pulling it away from the stock. When it all sets up it translates (vaguely) to the barrel having 5 pounds downward force against the stock. About where you started.

What was more helpful was bedding the action. Just a little at the tang and the recoil lug so the parts of the action that contact the stock have full contact. As with all mass produced products the mating surfaces aren't perfectly true and flat. Still the improvement in accuracy was small, it was good to start with.

I free float the whole barrel and torque both action screws to 45 inch lbs.
