I picked up a Model 70 today in 7mm magnum with a detachable magazine. Was this a factory option at some point or has this one been modified? Also before anybody gets started, it came with 2 mags. Guy said they are hard to find.

It was a short lived factory option, the last one I saw was in .284 Win caliber.

Do you recall if they had any problems with them or maybe just not popular? From a google search, It seems that the mags just dont exist.Mine is a push feed which from what I read means it was only made in 1989 and the next year the classic was introduced and they began making mag version for them instead. So its either a super bastard or fairly rare, depending on how you look at it. Just glad I got two mags! Anyway, got the rifle with 2 mags and 2.5 boxes of cartridges for 350.00. Cant lose much.

I'm pretty sure that FN still makes M70's with the detachable magazine in their tactical line. Not sure if they make one in a magnum cartridge though so I don't know about getting more magazines but if yours was a 308 they should be easy to get.
