1) "Wild and Wooly: An Encyclopedia of the Old West" by Dennis McLoughlin. Know where Adobe Walls was? Who "Ahvoke" was? Clay Allison? A zebu? This reference book has 570 pages of the people, places, things, and events that we call "The Old West." A great basic reference. HB in exc. cond w/dust jacket, but missing inside cover slip page. An instructional manual for re-enactors of the historic events in the West of the mid-1840s: the settling of California by Anglo-Americans, the discovery of gold near Sutter's Fort, the Bear Flag Revolt, and the US occupation. 15) SPF "The Education of a Wandering Man" by Louis L'Amour. Autobiography of a mill laborer, hobo, seaman, cowboy, and bare-knuckle prizefighter. And Western writer. Includes a lot of explantion of HOW he became a writer, including who and what he read. Trade PB 270 pp. in very good reading cond. illus w/b/w photos. $4

16) "A Walk Across America" by Peter Jenkins. Middle class, suburban, somewhat lost young man of the '70s sets off with his Malemute to find America and himself. And he does. Trade PB 329 pp in very good cond. w/color and b/w photos. $4

17) "The Walk West: A Walk Across America 2" by Peter and Barbara Jenkins. The sequel to "A Walk West" when in 1981 Jenkins and his wife crossed the US again, meeting a whole new group of "guides" and hosts. HB 350 pp. illus w/maps and color and b/w photos in exc. cond but w/no dust jacket. $5

18) "Across China" by Peter Jenkins. Jenkins travels across China, ending up in Tibet and Mongolia. Real adventures like real travelers have--no canned tour guides, no 5-star hotels. Trade PB 379 pp. in exc. cond. illus w/b/w photos. $4

20) "South Africa" by Brett, Johnson-Barker, and Rehnssen. this is an "Eyewitness Travel Guide" to the Union of South Africa. This series are the best guidebooks I've found--and used. Contains Sa history in brief, guides to cities by province, 3-D drawings of the main attractions--s
"Street-by-Street" views that make it easy to find your way. Many color potos, guides to natur eand to SA city culture, currency, transporation, wine, parks, and more. A very useful little book. HB 408 pp. Many maps, charts. Exc./new cond. $7

21) SPF "The Zulu War: A Pictorial History" by Michael Barthorp. Covers the Zulu War of 1879 with contemporary b/w photos, detailed maps, sketches by combatants and correspondents. Shows both the British and Zulu armies. 8x9 1/2" PB 189 pp. in exc. reading cond. but with some stains on outer page edges (don't affect the illus. or text). $6

22) "Rainbow's End" by Lauren St. John. A sports journalist's memoir of her childhood on a farm in Rhodesia during their civil war. Peace, war, family, nature, and loss. HB 271 pp. in exc. cond. illus w/maps and b/w photos. $6

23) "Adventuring in East Africa: the Sierra Club Guide to the Great Safaris of Kenya, Tanzania, Eastern Zaire, Rwanda, and Uganda" by Allen Beckby. NOT a hunting book, but good basic information on how non-hunting safaris work and what kinds are available, on African nature, and basic African travel issues. 25) "Vietnam: the Tools of War" by Edgar Doleman. One of the "Vietnam Experience" series which focuses on hardware from small arms to pilotless aircraft (yes, they used drones back then1) and motion sensors. 27) SPF "Hunters and Shooters: An Oral History of the US Navy SEALS in Vietnam" ed. by Bill Vincent. 16 SEAL veterans, officers and EMs, describe their Vietnam service in detail. 29) SPF "Elite Men and Elite Units" by "Soldier of Fortune" magazine. 33) SPF "The Outdoor Life Complete Book of Hunting" by Clyde Ormond. Classic "How To" from the 1960s. Covers all types of hunting in the US: what to hunt, how to hunt them, and what to use. (No laser rangefinders or compound bows, tho...). Old school but still good advice. HB in exc. cond. some dust jacket wear and cover spotting 467 pp. illus. w/b/w photos, maps and Douglas Allen (Outdoor Life artist) wildlife drawings. $6

34) SPF "Love of Labs: the Ultimate Tribute to Labrador Retrievers" ed. by Todd Berger. A big picture book of Labs growing, playing, learning, and hunting. Contains Foreword by "Field and Stream's" Bill Tarrant, and seven Lab stories about real dogs by experts like James Herriot, Gene Hill, and John Madson. 8 1/2x11" HB 169 pp. in new cond extensively illus. w/full color Lab photos, including pups in all three colors. 35) SPF "The Book of the Labrador Retriever" by Anna Katherine Nicholas. Classic resource on the history, origins, management, and training of the breed by a famed AKC judge. 36) SPF "The Hunter's World" by Charles F. Waterman.
