I remember when that production started. Fidel called it shameful so everybody here was for it.
The end of democracy, and the defeat of the American Revolution will occur when government falls into the hands of lending institutions and moneyed incorporations.

At the feed store here in town "Deer Corn" is around (more or less) $20/cwt. Ten years ago I could get it bulk for $2/cwt and $6/cwt in bags from the feed store.
An entire generation of deer has lived and died on our place not knowing what corn tastes like. I don't know if the current prices have been a boon to corn farmers or not. I don't know if ethanol production has increased their profit margin or if the operating cost have increased along with them. Gonna be interesting to see how corn farms fair after Jan 1, 2013 when it takes $$$millions to keep a farm together when grandpa dies and the government wants to tax his death.

Is there a looming shortage of beef and pork, due to not enough corn and its byproducts for feed?

The EPA is full of greenies and I suspect that many are vegans.

Is there a looming shortage of beef and pork, due to not enough corn and its byproducts for feed? Two-edged sword......many cattle producers are thinning their herds because of the current drought and the long range projections....no moisture to make the graze grow. The cost of supplimental feed is climbing and the cost of delivering it. Can't comment on swine.

The drought killed off a large percentage of the corn crop so the EPA will be demanding an even larger percentage of it, leaving little for feed.

I know the EPA. Anybody who thinks they contribute even the tiniest bit to society are out of their [bleep] minds (or just ignornant).

An awful lot of very conservative farmers are pretty addicted to double digit corn prices to support their 5 figure/acre land values. And a pile of them are staking their retirements in EtOH plants. I know of no liberal in Iowa that is gung-ho for ethanol, but I know of a lot of conservatives.

11 years ago, 32% protein cubes were $168/ton. Last week, $484/ton. I wish beef had gone up by that percentage - I might be able to replace my wore-out feed truck!
