The old Model B came through and I was able to take this deer just the other morning. After the shot the deer ran over the hill and out of sight. I decided it might be best to give it awhile before following up. I was sure of the shot but, well ya never know. So to kill time I made a couple of calls with the open reed. The coyote came to about 100 yards before deciding that's maybe not such a good idea. Too late. Snapped a couple photos and went to retrieve the deer. He'd only gone about 80 yards after being hit through both lungs. As he lay. 1910 vintage Savage B in .303 Savage 10 minutes earlier on the sunny side of the hill.

I think it would be a lot easier to start a thread for those that DIDNT get a deer this year. Everyone is banging them down. I missed a great mule deer like this a few weeks ago in Montana. Great deer Sir. Gotta respect a guy that defers from the 280 AI with a 4-12 Zeiss club and uses the tools of 1910. Way, way cool.

Great job...gotta love the .303. I use mine frequently, it's my favorite in the woods rifle. Took it on a caribou trip a few years ago, killed a big 'bou with it and my brother used it to kill both of his...after tagging out on caribou I put on the .410 barrel and kept the camp in spruce grouse. If I go in the woods this week (as opposed to hunting the big open areas) the .303 will probably go with me.

saddlering, I've always been amazed at how accurate these rifles are. No big trick to put 3 shots in "an inch-ana-half atta hunurd" (Montanese pronunciation) cra1948, caribou with a 303 Savage would be something. gnoahhh, thanks for the kind words. You, 303Mike and the rest of the guys have played a big part in allowing me to pursue using the old Savage 1899s. In a way, you guys are with me on each hunt. Thanks for passing on the tradition.

That's impressive; the country you hunt, the respective game you've taken, and the rifle you've chosen to hunt.

That is too cool for school. Is there anybody here than can turn those pics into black and whites? Now THAT would be cool. Retro.
