I am interested in a 541 listed on the web. Quiz question...it has a muzzle diamter of 0.79". Is that a tapered sporter barrel or a HB? I am thinking HB but want to be sure.
Thanks!

That sounds like a "T" or "HB" to me 'cause my 541-S barrel isn't anywhere near that diameter. There is also the Government contract target model and I believe its designation was "X" but I'm not sure of the barrel diameter; it is larger than an "S". There were quite a few of these released by CMP a while back. I think I also remember that the Government model was not drilled and tapped for scope bases, only the target bases/sights.

Sounds like a HB model. My 541-T HB muzzle diameter is right at 13/16 th's (which is 0.81). It's a heckuva rifle too.

Great gun ! I have owned one with the sporter barrel for 25 years...If they would have made them with a metal magazine would of been the perfect 22 !

Back online after being away for a few days. Thanks for the input guys, it sounded like a HB model to me.

It'd be nice if they had metal magazines like the Model 52...but I've never had a problem with those cheap plastic factory magazines that Remington made for the gun...they've always functioned just fine. Still a shame they weren't metal though, on such a fine rifle.
