I just saw a video entiled "Beyond Belief" and loved it. The rifles that they were using looked like custome rigs. What rifle/optic setup do the people here use?

Do a search for it. They are using a 7STW throated for the Swift Scirroc 150 grainers. A-2 McMillan. I'm sure they are just using a basic Leupold with turret.

I think they're also using a BDC replacement turret probably from Kenton Industries.

Yeah you can go to www.thebestofthewest.net and check out the info on the setup.. Basically its a 7mmSTW thats throated differently. Leupold LR scope with Target turrets that John Burns makes the BDC for. The stock is a McMillan A-3. Kenton Industries also make BDC knobs. If you really want to learn to shoot long range.. Here's an opinion of John Burns from a REAL LR Hunter...
I enlightened some Utah Hunters I met in Colorado this year as to the BS of John Burns. One fellow had phoned him and asked him how far his 7mm Mag would kill a deer or elk. Burns told him he would'nt shoot at anything with a 7mm Mag over 450 yards. Can you imagine that line of [bleep] he told the hunter who mentioned it to me. I told this guy to forget about that statement from Burns as he didn't know [bleep] from shiola on the 7mm mag. or anything else for that matter. A 7mm mag with a 26 to 30" barrel and a 168 or 175 gr Match king will knock a buck or bulls dick in the dirt at an easy 1000 yards or a bit further. Several years ago the 1000 yard aggregate at Williamsport was won with a 7mm mag.
Burns shots were mostly at 450 yards with one elk at 900. Thats duck soup or a walk in the park and we all know that. His ballon and plate shooting at a ridge with a valley behind was just plain unsafe to anyone who would be walking or riding a horse in that valley.
He also shot rocks at the top of a ridge with no idea as to where the bullets were going if they made it past the ridge.
The safety factor in that video really sucked and any new shooter to the longrange game should/could pick that apart.
His shots were nothing spectacular as the range was so close most of the time. As mentioned, most were 450 yard shots. We here in PA just watched and laughed at the video from start to finish. It was a joke to say the least.
Had he shot most of the game at 1000 to 1500 yards, it may have been worth while but, that was not the case. His equipment won't do it and I'm sure that's why most were short shots.
He needs to come back east and shoot here or go to a 1000 yard match and see how he does. His equipment (rifle) was nothing special and the shots left a lot to be desired.
This was a cut and paste post from Darrell Cassel on Precision Long Range Hunter.com

Check out Thompson Long Range shooting @ 435-757-1735. It's the real deal and the gun is not a 284.

They are extremly over priced. I guarantee you could learn more about LR shooting here on this sight than taking their course. And all it would cost you is the price of a target turret and a laser range finder. All the required info is out there for everyone to see without spending $1650 plus a plane ticket.
