SB682 & AB496 These bills seek to repeal part of the Civil Code 1714
that deals with product liability. These bills were redrafted and
gutted/amended from bills that were initially introduced to do other
things. These bills were changed after the anti-gun advocates lost
their "101 California Street lawsuit" against the firearms industry in
the California State Supreme Court.

The repeal of current law would only open the door of litigation to the
manufacturers of lawful and legal consumer products. Manufacturers of
lawful products should not be held responsible for the actions of
criminals or any person who uses the product in a negligent manner.

It is important that everyone continue to contact the legislature. These
bills could be voted on at any time in the Assembly (SB682) and in the
Senate (AB496).
