The rifle that I sold that I miss the most was a Remington 700 Laminated Stainless 7mm-08 Mountain Rifle. It was floated and bedded with a crisp 2.5 lb trigger. Same hole at 100 yards if you could do your part. I have a camo 308 BAR ShortTrack but I want another Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08.

Much enjoyin' that JeffO finally saved enough pennies to actually get a 162 in hand and she is reporting that they'll exit a muzzle at 2700fps.
'Nother 20yrs and she'll finally insert one into a Critter and "report" on terminal affects.

Not with RL15, they wouldn't! Think I'm on my 6th box of them, more on order. They are good bullets so far; haven't seen anything wierd. I may or may not stick a critter with one. Messy bullets aren't my thing, but only hits count and they do hit. I see the appeal.

But which will leave a better blood trail through the thickest thickness in the world when I make a gutshot on the really big deer that I hunt that are bigger and tougher than any deer where you hunt?

thought about 7mm-08 in rem mod-7.gun store has used but never fired one for sale $200 less than a new one. would use it for brushy wooded area on deer becouse of its shorter lengh than my rem mod 700 30-06.is this better than a .308 win in this type of hunting?one gun writer says it's recoil is a little more than a .243,but if the 7mm uses 140 gr. bullets and .308 uses 150 gr. i thought it would be closer to the .308.not worried about recoil just the muzzle blast and muzzle lift, plus i reload for the 30-06 so have plenty of .30 cal bullets ,is it worth saving 200 dollors on gun then have to buy diffrent cal. bullets as in is it that much better hand have less recoil than a .308 win For practical purposes, what one will do, the other will do. For brushy, wooded areas you describe a M7 in 7-08 is pretty sweet (hunted with one as my primary rifle for years in just such conditions).... then again, one in .308 would be equally sweet. Personally, I prefer 7-08 just because .308 has always seemed like an "almost 30-06" whereas the 7-08 is kind of it's own thing. If you are a ballistics geek you can load the 7-08 for like an inch less wind drift at 800 yards or some such nonsense.

I didn't read all the numerous pages to this thread so this may have been mentioned, but I like the 120 nosler balistic tips in my 7mm08 for whitetails. This has been an extremely reliable and effective hunting bullet for me having killed 11 deer and never recovered a bullet all pass throughs even shoulder shots at 40 yds. The 7mm08 with the 120s recoil is little more than my .243 win shooting 95 or 100 gr bullets.

Yeah that 7mm 08 is really "new" too bad the 7x57 will give it an azz whupping every day with any bullet weight. Almost 10% more case capacity always wins in equal rifles.
