with the short barrel of the public defender, I do not expect it to perform out to 20 or 30 yards, however, it does VERY well at closer ranges....I have killed several annoying tree rats and a few armadillos from the stand with it

Also, I have patterned Remington's 00 buck and winchester's PDX1 and both pattern superb at self defense range....in fact, I would imagine both would be far more devastating in a single shot than most self defense calibers

I have had ZERO failures to fire in SA and DA....no malfunctions whatsoever

I did not but this gun for CC...I bought it for my trips in the field and so far, it has served its purpose well
The Public Defender is a lot different than the ones I had. Mine were full size chambered for 3". There are so many different models of the Judge that I hate making a blanket statement, yet that was my experience with the two examples I had, which were identical 3" barreled, full stainless models. The Public Defender may very well not exhibit the problems I had. I would certainly test it double action though.

I never had problems with the Raging Judge I had either. It's hardly a concealed carry piece though and I shot it very sparingly double action. lol

Actually, Taurus was going to make a 28ga Judge until the ATF told them that they couldn't. S&W never had any plans to. They know US law better than Taurus.

After further consideration, buying the Judge is like having voted for Obama the 1st time.

Will it shoot 410 slugs, and is there any acuracy with them?

If you can catch or kill it I can cook it.

Heck, get this one with laser grips and it might shoot 35' accurately.

There was an article on the Governor in the last Handloader magazine. The author pointed out that slugs in the gun, even if accurate, are going to be inferior to 45 Colts. So why? I can't ever recall shooting any out of the Judge.
