I love mine. Another nice feature is Ruger cast the plunger tube integral with the frame. No more loose plunger tubes.

The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.

I had to have one, for one big reason, it said prescott, arizona on the side which is my home town. I am also left handed. I bought the ruger ambi safety and took it to a pistolsmith in the area who is nationally known both for his smithing and winning some national championships. He is no slouch. Charged me a 20dollar bill and about 5minutes to fit the safety. Didn't charge me much because he said it was the first ruger he had had a chance to fool with. His comment was it was a good build comparable to guns selling for twice that much. I respect his opinion. We talked about the trigger on mine, he said he wouldn't do much if anything to the way it already was. It shoots fine.
I might add he mentioned another safety other than the ruger ambi i could have installed. Easier instalation

Haven't fondled the Ruger 1911 but I suspect it is a great value. If I couldn't afford a Dan Wesson, I would get the Ruger.

Buy one Wade. I've been wanting to shoot a ruger 1911 for awhile. OK then, that's the best reason yet to buy a particular gun--your buddy wants to shoot it! I'll let you know if I get it. Come shoot bowling pins on Wednesday and you can try it then.

About the only thing I can say bad about mine is that the trigger could have a cleaner break. Easily fixed - but I just haven't gotten around to it. Stock recoil spring is a bit overkill. Not overly fond of three-dot sights (also easily fixed). Not overly fond of the skeletonized trigger (still deciding on which to replace it with).
Other than that - very happy with mine. It looks good, feels good, and works good.

I've had mine about 4 months. Well made, accurate, reliable, good sights, rust resistant, beautiful wood grips. Trigger had a bit of creep when I bought it. After about 50 rounds, it settled down to a crisp 4.5 lbs with no creep and no overtravel.
Cleaned and lubed it when I bought it. 500 rounds later (without further cleaning), it has fired a variety of hardball, JHP and SWC lead with no malfunctions.
Only issue was the stock screws got loose after about 200 rounds. A bit of loctite cured that.
I paid $635 plus tax at a local shop. The buy of the century! This one is a keeper. Highly recommended!

One thing Ruger did right was to use the standard bushing/guide rod setup rather than the full length guide rod that Kimber and too many other 1911 makers use. BIG bullschit flag waving back and forth.

I had them put one away for me at the LGS tonight, it was to late to do the paperwork before they closed up, I only got to fondle it for about ten minuets before they run me out the door and locked it behind me!, I'll pick it up Tuesday, I really don't know squat about the 1911's but I've never had any issue with anything with "RUGER" on it!?, and at half the price of the Kimber that it was next to I do realize that it isn't going to shoot like one either, they sound like good ones from what you guys say here.

Why do so many have such a beef with Kimber 1911s?? I've had a few for a while and never had so much as a single hiccup.. Besides, their trigger is pretty dang good for a factory handgun..

Makes them feel better about themselves .... I also have a Kimber. Getting close to 750 rounds through it ... nary a hiccup with Kimber or Wilson mags.
It is the plain jane Custom II .... whilst it had different sights (I like three dots), I think the handgun is about perfect. Event the Kimber 22lr conversion kit rocks.

I like mine. I also have Kimbers, Springfields, and Colts and shoot the Ruger more than any of the others. same here I had 2 series 70 Governments and a series 80 Officers ( sold 1 of the series 70's and bought the Ruger)I'm using the Ruger in IDPA matches.

That very issue made me hesitate - but then I figured that we all have access to real pistolsmiths...at the right price and waiting time.

I didn't. I went to Cabela's and fondled it. But, I just wasn't sure that I wanted to spend my points on a 1911. In fact, I don't know what I want. Isn't that crazy? With my gift cards, I have over $1000 to spend and have no idea what to get. I may need your help, Jamie!
