I recently bought one and it's on the way to me. I plan to put it on a 1950 vintage .300.

It didn't occur to me til after I bought it, does the installation fo this sight require removing any wood from the stock?

Since blooying my post mill .308, I want to get moving on hunting with my other 99s. This will make the .300 one a bit better.

Will the stock front sight work or will I most likely need a taller one now?

Should be ok. One way to find out!

Yep. When it gets here, I'll try it on for size. The tang site I put on it is OK, but I would really prefer better adjustments and some windage adjustment.

I prefer receiver sights to tang sights for straight up hunting or shooting.

However, I think the tang sights look cooler on old guns like K's, G's, and RS's.

Just me.

I can shoot much better with an aperture sight than an open type. That's whay I got the tang sight, but I think I'll like this 57 better ad this rifle really isn't old enough for the sight I have on it now really. I'll stash this tang sight away for when I have a real old 99 to put it on.

Sounds like a plan, Rich. Don't ignore the 30 tang sight if you stumble onto one. Its windage capability can't be beat. Best of the tang sights IMO.

Sight arrived. Gotta take the tang sight I have on the rifle off, but holding it there, I'm sure she'll bolt right on with no problems and I'll be in business.

Haven't done a lot of shooting with the old EG .300 I'll put this on. We have a specially long extended antlerless season in the public area I hunt this January, I think I know what rifle I'm gonna carry of I can get a workable load and get the rifle zeroed in the next couple of weeks.
