Saddlesore, <br> <br>The good news is I got my elk tag and certificate in the mail the other day. <br> <br>The bad news is that the guy I was to hunt with in South Fork had to evacuate his house several days ago because of the fires getting so close. The guy doesn't know if he will have a home to go back to or not. <br> <br>Those fires are really devastating to a lot of people and my heart goes out to them. <br> <br>At this point my elk hunt is the least of my concerns. I am more concerned if the guy we were to hunt with will have a house or not. Hopefully the winds will change and his house will be spared. <br> <br>Don

Don. The whole state is a tinder box waiting to explode. The fire down in the SW corner is bad, and we have one here about 10 miles west now 130,000+ acreas and still raging. Lots'a evacuees coming down to town and a lot of stock being put up at every arena and fair grounds around. Sure hope it starts rainging by elk season, or they may close more National Forest. <br> <br>Right now elk seasons don't look good! <br> <br>I just got my letter today for the left over draw I have to go talk to them Monday, there are 102 tags left for the area I put down for 2nd choice, and they didn't give me one. <br>Vince

Saddlesore, how'd you figure out there were elk tags left in the area you were trying for? <br> <br>I just checked the DOW site and they only had bear and antelope leftovers posted.

I mark the box on the elk application to b eincuded in the 2nd draw if they had one. I got my letter yesterday, . Due Back 1st July and it has all the areas where tags are still available for then draw. After the 2nd draw, any left will go on sale in August. Almost all the areas that were designated additional license areas have cow tags left over.

The second draw things has me confused. I was under the impression it was only available to those who didn't draw their first choice, so I didn't mark it down. I'm guessing I should have, so I could have picked up an additional cow tag without having to stand in lines in August. BTW, I got 1st choice ML Bull for unit 39...
