Saw this on an email, precious.

I'm going to bite the bullet, too!!!!

President Obama ordered the cabinet to cut $100,000,000.00 ($100 million) from the $3,500,000,000,000.00 ($3.5 trillion) federal budget.
I'm so impressed by this sacrifice that I have decided to do the same thing with my personal budget. I spend about $2,000 a month on groceries, household expenses, medicine, utilities, etc., but it's time to get out the budget cutting axe, go through my expenses, and cut back.
I'm going to cut my spending at exactly the same ratio (1/35,000) of my total budget. After doing the math, it looks like instead of spending $2,000 a month, I'm going to have to cut that number by six cents. Yes, I'm going to have to get by with $1999.94, but that's what sacrifice is all about.
I'll just have to do without some things, that are, frankly, luxuries six cents worth.
Did this President actually think no one would do the math? Please send this to everyone on your list so people understand how idiotic a $100 million cut is in a $3.5 trillion budget ludicrous!!

Here's another comparison -

One million seconds equals 11.3 days.

One billion seconds equals 32 years.

One trillion seconds equals 32,000 years.

We're in an impossible situation that seemingly can never be resolved.

Sorry, you're using the wrong math. When politicians talk about cutting they mean cutting from the projected increased amount. If you spend $2,000 a month now you have to increase that by at least the rate of inflation, which we'll pretend is just 2%, so your new budget has been cut to $2,039.94.

I like to hope that if more folks understood this there would be more outrage. Then again, maybe not. mad

The friggin cuts are probably reduction in next years spending increase and are not a cut at all. It's all a shell game.

It's like buying things on sale. Even though you're spending a schitload of $$$ ... it's the savings that matter.

What's not to understand about that? grin

In science and engineering, the use of Scientific Notation is used to handle large numbers.

This is interesting because it does the same thing where it can be understood by those of us who are mathematically challenged.

* U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000

* Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000

* New debt: $1,650,000,000,000

* National debt: $16,300,000,000,000

* Recent budget cuts: $38,500,000,000

Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget:

* Annual family income: $21,700

* Money the family spent: $38,200

* New debt on the credit card: $16,500

* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $163,000

* Total budget cuts: $385

Another way to look at the Debt Ceiling:

Let's say you come home from work and find there's been a sewer backup in your neighborhood and your house has sewage

all the way up to your ceilings. What do you think you should do....

(A) raise the ceilings, or

(B) pump out the crap?

They always talk about ozero's IQ but the guy just can't do the math. But I suspect he can do the meth!
