Any thoughts or opinions on the Sako 338 Lapua. I looked at the McMillan Tac 338 and the Surgeon Remedy. But there double the cost of the Sako. I dont want to say 6 months down the road I should have bought???

I really like mine, its waay more accurate than I am. For a fun play gun it works really really well. The trigger is beyond excellent, fully (and easily) adjustable. `ve got mine kitted out with the sako bipod, NF 5.5x22x56 in NF rings ,near 20moa base and near brake.` so equipped it kicks like a .243, its noisy as h$ll but any brake equipped lapua will be so that is neither a + or a -
Its a heavy bugger and not really well suited for hunting if walking around and snap shots are possible for your type of hunting. I cant shoot it offhand at all. If you are going to setup and glass and shoot from one spot (like shooting over a big cut or beanfield) then it would kick-ass. Hits on deer size targets will be possible as far as your skillset allows.
I`m a newbie to longer range shooting but its very easy to hit a 3`gong at 320yards with mine. pretty well everybody I let try it can as well. everybody that shoots it comes away smiling ear to ear- its off the charts on the fun scale.
I have no experience with the Mcmillan or surgeon but I cannot figure what they could possibly do that much better than the TRG to justify the price...
Do you have any specific questions about it

I am also impressed with my TRG-42. It is plenty accurate with 300gr SMKs over 92gr of H1000. It is consistently sub-MOA past 1000yds even in windy conditions. I have the factory brake and bipod. Both work very well. It is not a gun to even consider shooting without earmuffs and possibly plugs and muffs. The 2 stage trigger is very nice as well. If you are going to be shooting past 1000yds be sure to get plenty of cant in the base and a scope with enough internal adjustment.

Posting about it inspired me to drag it out this morning despite 20+km/h winds here's the first 3 shot group cold barrel 500yards. The rest of the day was well wasted busting clay birds and blowing up popcans I didn't measure the group but its under 2" I had to dial in 1/2 mil of windage for that 20km/h. Someday I'll get somebody who's not blind and shaky like me to shoot it to see what it can really do

Unless you regularly shoot well over 1000 yards or just have excess play money you may want to rethink your need for a 338 Lapua. We have been shooting 308's, 7-08's, 6ppc's and a 223 out to 1000 and hitting MOA. Anything under that range is a waste of powder as far as I'm concerned. I had a TRG 42 and it shot pretty well, just over 1/2MOA with hand loads but I didn't shoot far enough regularly to justify keeping it. They will hang with a lot of custom rifles.
