150 yards, 170gr Win factory load, old M98 sporter of Dad's original irons. Spike buck was shot high in shoulder, knocked down, got up made it about 30 feet. I was 15 and pretty pumped.

So far mine is about 150 yards. Small buck ,chest shot almost facing bullet came out in rear leg,196 Grain partizan factory load. approx 3/4 inch entrance and exit and deer ran 50-75 yards after hit. Anyone used the 8x57 for 400-500 yards ?
Stillbeeman what type of velocities were you getting and would you go into more detail on whether the bullet went all the way through, wound channel ,size of deer etc.
Thanks
Craig

A friend I hunt with killed his elk last year at at 518 yds and believe it or not a deer at 790 yds. The elk ran about 30 yds and the deer dropped dead in its tracks. He consistently shoots 3 inch 500 yd groups. It's an old 98 German with a step barrel lopped off at 26 inches bedded in a bell and carlson stock topped off with a 10 x 42 Super Sniper.

It can be done with a 26" barrel within standards:

Code
Cartridge : 8 x 57 IS (8 mm Mauser CIP)
Bullet : .323, 200, Nosler AccuBond 54374

Rem 8x57 Classic. 170 Hornaday Round Nose. Stiff load of RL - 15, 2775 fps. Several deer over a few years @ 140-150 yards. This bullet shoots very well in mine. 200 grain Accubonds shoot well also with H4350 but I think I'll try them out on a hog first.

Ride well, shoot straight, and speak the truth.
