What's on the back side of the thing? My first guess was a steam engine/generator.

Portable Boiler, for powering /pressuring up who knows WHAT steam powered implement or device.
Cleaned up a bit, and repaired, you could heat a pretty good sized hacienda with that old beast.
Saw a LOT of that sorta' stuff sitting around down in Mexico.

I'm just imagining the thing being assembled out of fresh raw iron. .........can you imagine being the poor SOB that had to sit in that thing and buck those rivets ?
Talk about a work ethic.

GTC Friend of mine bought a huge older house heated by a boiler from a steamboat. He had to remove it and install a regular furnace to get insurance on the house.

We used to have these boilers around here a lot they were used to fire the Mint stills. Farmers used to grow mint and extract the juice to sell for pepermint extract.

Candelaria plant processor? That's kinda what we [my hunting pard in the first picture] were thinking. Another hunting buddy had seen Mexicans cooking the stuff down in Sonora years ago on a deer hunt. I've seen a few a few places down there where primitive mining operations were carried out in the twenties, and this site doesn't look much like them.Of course, it may have all been cleaned up. To answer another question, we stumbled on this on our cattle catching excursion last spring.

Looks like a portable smoker on an industrial scale. Maybe something put together to fee an entire army of men.
The other thing that comes to mind is the boiler. If the long cylindrical portion is sealed on the end where the opening is showed, then its certainly a boiler; and that makes the most sense. Im betting it was hooked up to something else, to power some sort of engine for industrial use.
Whatever it is, its very cool. Would make a really cool yard ornament at our local tractor museum.

This old tractor is several miles downriver from the other stuff. It must have been used making roads since there's no sign of farming activity around there............. EVER !

If it's still warm and has North Korean writing, you've found their recently-launched satellite.
