Not one to pass up a potentially good mystery I picked this up at the library last week but haven't cracked the cover yet. Main character is a game warden in Wyoming so I was intrigued. The one I picked up was "Open Season" as it looked to be the first in the series.

Just finished "First Man" the biography of Neil Armstrong last night so maybe start this tonight.

I've read all of the Pickett novels so far. The are a great read with good hunting content and a likeable, unlikely, hero.

In one of the books, a character shoots a ".308 magnum" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Other than that, they have been technically correct.

He (Box) seems to be timing his releases to coincide with my spring bear hunt, which I appreciate very much.

Good stuff.

Read one of his books on one of my previous deployments. The friend that passed it on to me, swears that the character is based on a game warden we met on an antelope hunt in WY, in 02. This warden had a Lab and was a very friendly, down to earth guy.

I love these novels. I wish they could turn them into movies.

There is, if I recall correctly, a .308 Norma Magnum, a cartridge which falls between the .300 Winchester and the .300 Weatherby in size and power, if I recall correctly.
