So, I stop in at a Ranch and Home Store today to grab some Gold Dot ammo for my wifes new to her KelTec PF-9 carry pistol as a stocking stuffer/Christmas gift. This store does not have a huge gun department and they kind of avoid used guns and trade ins etc. Only 4-6 used long guns typically in the racks, at most.
Today, as I am waiting for a clerk to grab the ammo from behind the counter and I spy a pair of old looking model 99's down the way from me in the used rifles area. I walk over and the front one's tag is turned over so that no one could see it (LUCKY for me, I think!) and I ask if I can step back and flip it over. Sure, says the overwhelmed clerk..... I gain a closer look and can tell it has a straight grip stock and is a takedown model. So far so good. Then I turn over the tag, expecting another overpriced 300 Savage and see that it is in a chambering that I have long coveted, 22 Savage Hi Power! No scope mounting holes, no cracks in the stock... Then, I look down at the price on the tag and nearly had a Tachycardia attack on the spot. $375!!!!! Woo Hoo! I put money on it, went home and grabbed my C&R FFL and my cash stash and went back to bring it on home to daddy!
It always pays to look, eh? I am feeling pretty excited right now about this purchase. Came at a great time as we had just sold out of AR-15 MAgazines and had some extra, unexpected cash come in this week at just the right time.

Gonna have to see pictures of a $375 22HP before I congratulate ya. I'd have jumped on it tho. Congrats!

Nice find. Ignore the naysayers, the .22HP is way up there in the fun quotient.

Great find. 22HPs are a lot of fun, especially with pinking loads. Mine goes to the range almost every time I do load work up for shooting while I'm letting a rifle cool between groups. BTW, I hope you bought a lottery ticket too.

No.2 was probably just a plain old 1899 C in 38-55, or something like that.

Number 2 was $500.00. Looked like a pretty common variation but did have a tang peep sight. The 300 Savage chambering killed the interest quotient for me.
IF ya'll want me to I will go look more closely at that one and post a more detailed description of it here. I have purcheased guns for others here before just as a way to help them get it and it would qualify under my C&R FFL so I would not have to fill out a 4473 etc.
Thanks for the congratulations and kind words, I will be busy with Christmas prep for a couple of days but will try to get pictures of it up here right after.
Blessings and a MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone.

No.2 was probably just a plain old 1899 C in 38-55, or something like that. Nah he said it was in 300, probably a barrel band in great shape. Or a cut checkered DL. Can't find either of them easy.

norm PM SENT~! Thank you sir, I do need some goodies for this one. Stock is great, but the buttplate is cracked with a small chunk missing. Also need all of the ammo and or loading supplies I cann get my hands on. I just obtained a couple weeks ago a NITB Redfield peep sight and this one has the factory holes for just that unit. Since it has no holes for a scope, this will be my peep sight Model 99. The only other 99 I need or want now is a 99C (need removeable magazine for the purpose I have in mind on this one) re bored to 358WCF. MAYBE a 99C in 243 as well. As I see it, 99's in 22HP, 250/3000 and 358 with maybe a 243 thrown in would fill the bill for any and all lever action hunting I might want to do going forward. MARK

No worries, I can find those easily enough down here.
Do need help with dies, brass, a buttplate etc.
Looks to me like what I have is an 1899H. Straight grip stock, 20 inch factory barrel, takedown, all link up/match to that model according to my blue book of gun values. Am I on the right page/track?
