I am getting a 300WM soon and thinking about different loads.

Knowing cup and core bullets do best at 2800 fps or less, how does the Hornday Interlock perform at faster velocities, say 3000-3100 fps? Would a differently constructed bullet (eg. partition, monometal, bonded) perform better at these higher velocities?

In a word, YES! I used 180 BTSP Interlocks in my 300 WM at 3140 fps. Result -- dead deer, dropped at the shot, but the exit hole was nasty. I swapped out to TSX, and have eaten up to the hole ever since. 168 grain TSX shoots real sweet in my 300 WM. I use RL-22, mostly.

As the shootist has mentioned the 168TTSX are very accurate as are the 185 Berger VLD's, and the 180 Accubonds work great in both my 300 wm's, for killing without all the bloodshot meat the 168 ttsx's are my favorite also!

The 190 BTSP Interlock can be driven to 3000 fps in the 300 Win. It worked fine for me on several elk and mule deer, plus one black bear. The recovered bullets all expanded nicely, and none of them lost the core.

If you are worried about too high of an impact velocity, just simply step back a few hundred yards before taking a shot! wink

In all seriousness my brother used that load this year on elk and it worked out pretty good. If you are under 150 yards, just try to avoid the shoulders and you'll be a-ok.

I just loaded some 180 TSX's in my 300 WM with 75 grains of RL-22. It'll be a while before I get to try them out. Weather has been hovering around 15 below F. A tad chilly. I am betting even RL-22 is less sensitive to the temperature than I am. wink

I use the Hornadys in my 300 Weatherby with reliable results.

I still have some 180 Interlocks from my 300 winny. I believe 74 gr of RL22 was the best load for me. Had real good luck with Sierra prohunters, too. I ran the 180's at 3100 and never had a problem. For whatever reason the primer made a lot of difference while I was loading for the 300 Winnie. I had the best luck and the best velocities from the Federal red box, not the match primers. CCI's seemed to give me the least velocity. Winchester primers seemed like they would work on new brass but always had trouble with them being looser after the brass was shot once. Put a Fed or CCI in the same case and everything was ok.

As I've mentioned before how well the Federal Fusion ammo has shot in our rifles, several calibers,I would try the 300 Win mag 150,165's or the 180gr ammo in your rifle. It seems everything shot with this ammo, the bullet did what it was supposed to do,make things die with relatively average meat loss.Fusion ammo it less expensive than most.

I used a 180 IL in my 300 WSM to take a bull elk last year. 200 yards, bang, flop.
