Here is the information for our Hog Hunt for 2013.
WHEN: Arrive on the afternoon of Wednesday, 13 March, and leave on the morning of Sunday, 17 March.
WHERE; Same as last year, the Wilderness Hunting Lodge in Tennessee.
COST: $650 for hunters(last year it was $675) and $ 250 for non-hunters.
NEW HUNTING AREA: Wilderness has added an additional area for hunting that is about 6 miles from the lodge. The total hunting area will now be about 2600 acres.
MAXIMUM NUMBER AT WILDERNESS: The max that they can handle without putting anyone on an upper bunk is 40. The upper bunks can be used to store gear. If we reach 40 participants, we'll have to put any more on stand by.
DEPOSITS: Deposits of $250 are required. Those who were previously at Wilderness and/or Caryonah, and their relatives, will be given first chance for 2013. The reason for this is to encourage Fire members to build on the tradition of our Boar Hunt. Deposits for this group must be received at Wilderness by 12 January.
Deposits for new hunters must be received after 12 January and before 20 January.
And when you mail in your deposit check, please put your Campfire handle on the check along with 24HCF. And also send Pugs a PM with your given name so we can track who is going on the hunt.It can be somewhat confusing when everyone has two names. He'll post the Campfire names of those who have sent in their deposits.
If you have sent in a deposit and your plans change and you can't go on the hunt, there are three options: 1) Find another hunter who will take your place, or, 2) Have the deposit carried over to the following year,or, 3) Forfeit your deposit
GAME PROCESSING: Wilderness has excellent game processing. The cost for a hog, with sausage, is $125.
SHOOT A RAM: If after you shoot a hog, you can then shoot a ram for $525. The regular price is $725.
NEW FACILITIES:
A concrete base with a roof over it will be added, along with a fireplace and a smoker. Don't know if this will keep Pat from drinking all my brandy and then trying to push me in the fire, but I'm hoping. In any event, the roof should keep us pretty dry and comfortable when it rains.
And many, many thanks to Rick for the 24HCF, and for the sticky.
Please post any pictures that you took last year so that new hunters can get an idea of what the hunt is like. Also, please check the Wilderness Hunting Lodge for additional info.
Steve

Sounds like as blast!
Really wish I could make it, especially since it is just an hour or so from my folks place.

Cool! here's a couple photos: some of the typical terrain: gathering at the executive suites my young boar on the left, with the huge sow ET killed with his Sharps and the charcoal burners I think I'll bring this year:

That sounds like a blast. Is this a Holy Black, front stuffin' only thing, or can a feller that fills cartridges win the Holy Black play too?

Scott, I think it was 27 or so, and last year was our first at Wilderness.
When the pictures from that hunt were posted, and the stories were told, a number of other guys said they would like to go in 2013.
And a bunch of guys, including me, are counting on your being there. Steve

The guns brought last year spanned the full spectrum of possibilities.
Will be about the same for 2013.

I'm in. I'll get the deposit mailed and I'll let Pugs know as well.
I need to confirm my work schedule before I pin down how/when I'll be travelling but will likely do the same as last year. When I confirm, I'll post up so another Damnyankee can jump in with ET and I.
george
BTW....I was a top bunk last year. Am I now considered "gear" if I stay there?

How many hogs for the basic hunt and fee, and how much extra to shoot additional hogs. How hard is it to find and shoot more than one Piggie at this lodge and property?

George,
Yes, you will be considered "gear".
We should have had lower bunks for everyone last year. Don't know what happened.
Anyway, it is all lower bunks this time. I can just imagine someone skydiving from a top bunk after having too good a time around the campfire in the evening. And doing it with a very full bladder.
Glad you can make it again.

Steve, There were plenty, I've always gone for the top bunks. I learned early on in my hiking career at the AMC huts there's more room up there when I sit up suddenly in the middle of the night .
