From what I have read some people think the new tang safety model 94s are the equivalent in craftsmanship to the pre-64s? What do you think?

Any thoughts on this subject -- possibly from those who have both?

I think if you handle both you will have your answer. The pre-64 if a fairly solid rifle and doesn't rattle in the lever.

The pre-64's are much better in the fit and finish department. Whith a little searching, you can find a lightly used pre-64 for the price of a new one.

The present rifles are some of the most accurate 94's I've shot, however; I've never considered the 94 to have any accuracy problems for the role they were created. I'm an old Winchester kind of guy, so I'm bothered by the springy trigger and the tang safety. I also think the current open sights are an abomination.

The current guns are put together quite well. They work and they're accurate. Where the pre-64's have 'em is in the looks department. The pre-64's just look more like a real Winchester. Nicer bluing, crisper lines on the receiver, better sights, steel buttplate etc.

For a working rifle, both will do the job just fine.

I've owned quite a few of each, and I think the previous 2 posters said it pretty well---2MG
