Top of the morning to you sir, I hope that you and yours had a great Christmas.

As I've done for a decade or so now, I helped run the .22 portion of the Oliver gun club's annual turkey shoot this past December 9th and as it happens one of the shooters had a brand spanking new one of those.

For the life of me I can't think of exactly why I need one, but it was such a cool little rifle that I too feel the irresistible pull.... blush

The lockup system looked to me to be quite simple and robust at the same time, which is to say typical Ruger stuff.

Otherwise I'm not sure what'll be coming my way this year. I've got a couple of actions that have been parked for years now awaiting time, funds and inspiration for me to continue on. One is a VZ24 and the other a P14 that I happen to have a P17 bolt for as well, so it's begging to be some sort of rifle with a large hole in the barrel - I need either like an additional couple of holes in my noggin - but still. whistle

I look forward to hearing a field report on your new 10/22 n007 and all the best to you and your family in 2013 too.

Dwayne

Hey Dwayne:

There are a couple of spaces in my gun safes as I just gave a 20 gauge to my nephew and a .22 to my niece. Those gaps need filling and I have never owned a semi-auto before and from the reviews the takedown 10/22 is a lot of fun. Not sure what I will scope it with, something short enough that it will fit the carrying case.

I have no space in my gun safe, which is both a feeling of comfort and despair. I HATE selling rifles. I hate buying more/larger gunsafes. What a quandry I am in. laugh

I have the yen for a centre-fire 22. As there are so many good choices, would it be possible to make a poor one? I lean toward a 223 simply because of the availability of cheap components. Yet a 22-250 is also nice, or a 225 Win or a 220 Swift. Insanity doth quickly come. crazy

I had a 22/250 years ago,of course, I wish I still had it.
You may of course, get other advise, but if you want a lot of noise, go for the 22/250, otherwise, the 223 is just fine.

Picked up a mint Sako m75ss 270WSM in the SM action just before XMAS. Sold one of my Tikka T3 LS 270WSM's to my bro-in-law.

Probably going to buy a Sako m75ss 30-06 as i have a new 25-06 Sako m75 stainless barrel I took off a project rifle when I built 338-06AI. This way the boys wont need to fight...one can use the Sako m75ss 243, the other the 25-06. Then switch it back to a 30-06 when they get older.

I'm not likely buying anything anytime soon but....I do have this Savage M99 action that has been in the safe since Oct 2012.
It is high time I decide upon caliber and get to work on the build.
I really need to finish rebuilding my Win 97 this winter as well.

358 or 284 might be nice for that 99, or how about 6.5x284? That would hustle a 120 grainer downrange pretty qickly.

The .358 is what I have been kicking around. 6.5X284 sounds interesting too. 300 Sav is a possibilty too. Lots of possibilities. Custom barrel and furniture, cerakote the metal, sights will likely be NECG's. The action is in excellent shape, but because it is only the action there is no "guilt" attached to it like a restoration might carry. Going to a fun build for sure.

Just brought home a Model 70 Featherweight in .270 (pushfeed) made in 1981 by the look of the serial number. Excellent shape, also has open sights. I'm led to understand these models were only shown in the 1981 Winchester catalogue, and not marketed until 1982/83 and not offered again except on the the .375 and .458 models. It is undergoing a "mighty cleaning" at the moment. I've every confidence it will be a good shooter if I do my part.

I have been wanting a Sako for a number of years just haven't been able to justify the cost, the 270 WSM sounds like a great cartridge from what I have read.

I have a couple 270WSM in the Tikka T3 LS model....great shooters! Well actually now 1 less-sold one to the bro-in-law to buy the Sako to go with my Sako m75 collection. Love this WSM caliber with the 140gr Accubonds. Taken elk, moose, bears, deer, wolves/coyotes...

That field report looks like it is going to have to wait, went to the local gun shop and they told me they would put me on the waiting list but had no idea when they were going to get any in. I guess Ruger is still trying to catch up on back orders for several of their firearms.

I have two on my wish list for 2013.
I'd like a plinker .357 Mag rifle, probably a single shot H&R.
Another is a good quality scoped air rifle in .22 cal. Leaning toward an RWS Diana Model 34.
However, I'll have to sell something to make those dreams come true - maybe my Winchester 88 in .243, which hasn't seen action in many years.

Just committed to a NIB model 70 fwt stainless in 270, coming to me from a shop in Alberta. It will end up in a good synthetic stock and see lots of time in the field! It may, hopefully, put the brakes on a bunch of buying/selling/trading I have been doing the past several years! Been there, done that, ended up almost exactly back where I started!

I bet that most of us have done that and often wonder, WTF did I ever sell that ???? for, anyway?!

I once bought an unfired P-64 Alaskan, .338WM, January, 1968, aged 21 and later that year sold it back to the retired dealer in Nelson, from whom I had obtained it...at a loss,of course, being young and impulsive.

After a few years, I really regretted parting with what was/is,for a man doing the sort of wilderness solo work I did for some years, a superb rifle in perhaps the "best" cartridge for BC, overall.

I never forgot this rifle and, when visiting Nelson, autumn 1987 to attend my aunt's funeral, I found it, by chance, sitting in a small gunstore and belonging to the owner, whom I knew.

In January, 1988, almost 20 years to the very day from my initial purchase of it, he finally, after some considerable "salesmanship"by long distance on my part, agreed to and did sell it back to me.....for $1400.00 and I leaped at the chance to bring it home.

The object lesson for young and, one hopes, wiser gun nuts here is obvious.....that said, this is one rifle I will never part with and it is still in fine shape in a Micky stock and it shoots sub-moa with 250NPs.
